This has me excited for Shane's longhorn future and for September 4th. Palmer's opinion means a lot since Blake Bortles hired Palmer to prepare him for the draft.

Jordan Palmer was a QB backup for ten year in the NFL and is the brother of Carson Palmer. He works with Trent Dilfer at the Elite 11 and worked with Shane a couple of years ago. This is what he said about Buechele on the podcast with Stewart Mandel and Bruce Feldman.

Whatever you can expect from a true freshman, whatever the most is, that's what you can expect from Shane Buechele as a true freshman. He has spent a lot of time with Shane.

He's a little guy but he's a fiery competitor and is more mature than other kids his age.  He has a pedigree that is damn near second to none and he was a damn good baseball player but chose football. Palmer thinks that Buechele is going to come in and light it up.

He also said what's fun too for Texas fans is that he played pro ball with Texas longhorns Quan Cosby, Cedric Benson and Jordan Shipley who is still is best buddy and that there is an little excitement level going on in Austin right now.

He added that Shane really is the thing closest thing to Colt McCoy he looks like him, he's from a similar town, and runs around and makes plays like him.  Austin is pretty excited for Shane to come in and deal.

The difference between him and someone that is 10 to15 pounds heavier does not make that big of a difference. It comes down to how he plays the game and how he protects himself. Shane is smart and is not going to be careless and reckless with his body. He understands that he has a beating coming his way. He also said he and Shane has talked about this.

If you look at Russell Wilson, no one ever gets a clean shot on him. The reason who don't talk about Wilson having any nagging injury issues as we have with RG3 and the guys who run around is that he protect himself he doesn't take the extra hits. He thinks Shane has a good understanding of this and doesn't see this as a big issue he is the type of guy who can play and protect himself.

Thanks, primal d.  I agree.

Jamaal Charles wasn't as big as Ricky, but he was elusive and tough.  I would say he's been pretty effective.   ;)   Some athletes take a lot of punishment, but others don't.

Hook 'em!

10 freshmen who could impact 2016 College Football Playoff race

Shane Buechele, QB, Texas

Texas has spent the years since Colt McCoy’s stint as a potent triggerman in a world-beating offense searching for a capable quarterback. In Buechele, it might have one. The four-star passer out of Lamar (Texas) High was the centerpiece of a 2016 recruiting class that could buoy the Longhorns’ next conference title contender under coach Charlie Strong. Alternatively, should Buechele flop as a true freshman—and his competitor in the Longhorns’ QB derby, senior Tyrone Swoopes, continue to underwhelm—Strong could be looking for a new job before New Year’s Day. Buechele enrolled early at Texas, so he was able to participate in workouts this spring. He’s garnered mostly positive assessments so far, and he’ll have two talented running backs to lean on in D’Onta Foreman and Chris Warren. If Buechele can pick up new offensive coordinator Sterlin Gilbert’s up-tempo scheme, expect a productive, if not McCoy-like, season.
