Some football team notes

My biggest hope is that the childish reaction to something of this sort by the on-line experts not happen.

What a lot of people are overlooking is that in the spring game, Buechele faced a very vanilla defense. Much more vanilla than any defense that he would take the field against this fall.
Didn't Swoopes face the same "vanilla" defense in the spring game?   I agree that we should not get ahead of ourselves, but place a little faith and trust in our coaches.

Absolutely.

If I had to make an "uneducated" guess, I would guess that so far in fall camp there really isn't that much difference in their performance. And my other "uneducated" guess is that, on a scale of 1-10 performance wise, they are both at about a 4-5 level right now. And we really need a QB playing at 7-8 level.

History is a great teacher. For whatever reason T. Swoopes is a good "offseason" QB (probably a 7 or 8). Every year at this time the Coaches are very complimentary of his "growth". Then the season starts and he comes unwound like kite string in a tornado. If "Bobby" Beuchele is keeping the comp. close at this time of year our UT QB will be fine this year with him at the helm. Charlie has seen Swoopes for three years, He knows his strengths and weaknesses. I'm willing to bet he won't put his future on Swoopes' shoulders again.

Truth is...We ALL know Swoopes is not a Gamer and struggles with his progressions... The positives are that if he does have to lead this offense, this new system is built around the running game. Watch the Baylor bowl game versus North Carolina. They had no legitimate QB and gained 35 miles of rushing yards by running power and read options. If Swoopes can lead that type of attack, mixed in with play action - we may be A-ok for the first couple games until Shane is ready

I really like Swoopes. He is a team first guy and he is a class act, with a load of ability and a good work ethic. He seems to have Chuck Knoblauch type issues and those are hard to "fix".
