This is kinda funny

DMAC,

You are right about Mile's and Harbaugh's first seasons.

What's missing in your example is that Stanford was only five and seven in Harbaugh's second season. Kinda good thing they didn't fire him then.

Miles didn't exactly set the woods on fire at OSU either. Never had a 10 win season until he went to LSU.

And the king of college coaches, Nick Saban?...

First year at Michigan State in 1995...6-5-1

1996...6-6

1997...7-5

1998...6-6

Sure glad we didn't get him! LOL!

I really don't know how this is going to turn out for Charlie, just say'n...

I clearly showed the first years at each school.

So based on your post you are saying Strong is the next Harbaugh or Saban.  ok....he could be another Muschamp at Florida for all we know.

Florida

2011: 7-6

2012: 11-2

2013: 4-8

2014: 6-5

Strong, who

  • insisted on starting Gray infront of Foreman or Warren.  Why?  The two latter nearly doubled his Grays production.
  • hired a ProStyle OC and Spread OL CoOC.
  • kept Watson as OC to install an up tempo spread after 3 blowouts in 2014, even though he is a Pro Style guy?
  • best explanation after every game is "we just need to execute better"
  • is 0-11 when the other team scores first.
  • gained 59 yards vs Arkansas
  • has suffered almost as many blowouts as he has wins
  • had an exceptional QB at Louisville who could make any coach look good.  Vikings
  • said we would never lose 6 games again after 2014
  • and on
  • and on
  • and on
I have my reasons to doubt.

What are your reasons to believe?

I support my school and the team.  Just because two losing seasons is blue skies for you doesnt mean it has to be for everyone.

If thick is a reference to good and thin is a reference to bad.

Where is the thick in the last 2 years?

You do have good reasons to doubt, DMAC, and I'm not arguing that.

All I did was take some of the facts in your argument a little farther to show why I believe there could still be hope that Charlie will get it turned around.

Does that mean that I think he will be another Saban or Harbaugh? No. Not yet. I do believe that he deserves an equal chance.

Whaaaat?? C'mon man!

We're with you. Really. We're all hurting. Have a Snickers, D, you're not you when you're hungry.LOL

Well, it's nice to know that there are still UT fans who will support the Horns through thick and thick.
One can support the university and the team and still not be happy with the coach. For example we hear all the time that recruits should commit to a school and not the coach well should the same not hold true for fans?

I have posted the records for Harbaugh, Herman, McElwain numerous times.  Now look at Strong's record in two years.  Proof is the numbers.  Strong has not produced and is paid substantially more than any of them.  So why people cut Strong so much slack or defend his record at Texas is baffling.  Should we so readily accept mediocrity?

Houston Cougars beat #9 FSU, with a UH roster.  People doubted him throughout the season claiming they were playing Memphis and those teams were not as good as their ranking.  Well he did it all season in his first year.  He used a 4 string QB who was a WR before the season started for some of those games. So yea give him his due credit.

Many people here have been using the lack of talent reason for the "5 year plan" or "it takes time".   I agree with that for the most part as that is the norm, but if I say Harbaugh is a better coach than Strong I get the immediate "They have more talent, Mack killed our program".  Ok, sounds reasonable.  Lets go there.  Why is Houston so much better?  Talent?   Not buying the talent argument with regards to Houston.  So what is it?  IMO Coaching.

As for Harbaugh and these other coaches you mentioned, read below.  Those records are in line with Herman, some took a little longer.  But Houston does not have the talent those schools have either.

I can only speculate what Herman or a Harbaugh could do with our roster, but I am convinced it would be better than 5-7 which included numerous blowouts, one being to Iowa State.

Strong is a lovable guy and good man but I am ready for a breakup.  Yes I want Herman.  Imagine what he could do here with the resources, tradition, the city of Austin, etc.
DMAC, how many times have you been married, if any ? Just curious.

Football is a business buddy.  Not that being married has anything to do with your schools 5 million a year football coach but I get it, you are trying to be cute.

Twice the first one I was very young and and lasted only 3 years.  Mutual.

My current wife is my soulmate and we have been married for 14 years.

I guess I should have stayed with my first wife and been miserable for 5 years minimum.

That seems to be the common Strong narrative here.

If someone said that you had to be happy with the coach, I must have missed it.  All I've read just asked that he be given a fair chance, and that is where our difference is.  Some say two years is enough, some say three, and some say more.

You may think he has had enough time, or not.  I respect your opinion as I do DMAC's.  To be honest, I don't know what the right answer is.

But would you, on January 15, stand up in front of the uncommitted recruits on their OV and tell them how much you like Charlie as a man, but not as a head coach?    They should still want to come to UT, though, because "We're Texas"?  No, you wouldn't do that because I don't believe you would  intentionally do anything to hurt the team's chances to land a coveted recruit.  So maybe I don't fully understand the impact of social media, but isn't that what you are doing now?  This social media stuff is kind of new to me, so maybe I am overestimating it.

I love you brothers, and though our opinions may differ at times, I promise to stand by your side and forever defend you from bears, aggys,  sooners, or toad frogs.

Wait, your ex wife is the HC of the Horns?😜

Fans, Negativity and Texas Football

http://hookemheadlines.com/2016/01/04/fans-negativity-and-texas-football/?utm_campaign=roost&utm_source=roost&utm_medium=desktop

The writer says there are 3 different types of Longhorn fans: the casuals, the sunshine pumpers & the criticals.

Then you have the sunshine pumpers.  You can’t say anything bad about your team and you never, ever boo your team. We’ve got a lot of those out there.  If you came to be a Longhorn fan during the Mack Brown era, you’re excused. No one pumped sunshine better than Mack Brown. No one.

Then you have the criticals. The ones who never seem to be satisified.  The ones who always want more.  Believe it or not, there are far more critical fans out there than me.  I was perfectly content with Mack Brown’s eight wins and a decent bowl game trajectory when most criticals were ready to burn his house down to get him out of town.
I am a critical.  Shocker I know.

It was a good read and puts perspective on why so many of us argue over how good a player/coach is.

The only exception here is most Strong sunshine pumpers are critical of Mack Brown. LOL

JB,

Good thing you are a Casual Cowboy fan otherwise your stress level would have you hospitalized between both teams.  ;)
