Breaking News: Sterlin Gilbert Interviewed This Morning for OC Position

maxresdefault.jpg

9:45pm update -- OB had added that Gilbert has now informed the HC at Tulsa that he intends to take the UT job.

The potential assistants he will bring with him are same ones I mentioned above --
Matt Mattox (OL, Tulsa) and Luke Wells (WRs, Utah State).

FWIW, Bobby Burton is denying this report^
Is he behind, or properly cautious?

Sterlin please turn this ship around and help turn us back into a national power. The last 5 years have been rough.

"The potential assistants he will bring with him are same ones I mentioned above --

Do these two assistants have any ties to the state? I'm sure it's been discussed but I have missed it.

Mattox played for Briles at UH and then was a GA for Briles at UH. Wells coached at Denton HS.

Thanks guys. I am as concerned about our recruiting needs as anything.

 Luke Wells (WRs, Utah State).

Burton says that Cal OC Tony Franklin had been scheduled to also interview with Charlie Strong today.
He says its "unclear" if that interview will still take place.

Not to negate what Franklin did at Cal. But how much of that interest was established as a result of having the best QB in the country?

He was extremely successful at LA Tech after failing at Auburn.
That's true. I just know we've lived and been paralyzed by one coordinator made by a QB (Watson/Bridgewatee), so I'm cautious when it comes to OC's who have worked with prolific college Quarterbacks. Especially when some are calling said QB the best since Aaron Rodgers.

This is reminiscent of the classic "chicken or the egg" parable

Did coaching help the great player or would he have been great under anybody's tutelage? Tough call
