*****Texas vs. Notre Dame Game Thread*****

Our talent level is way beyond noncompetitive.  I dont blame Strong at all.  This is on Mack Brown.  Its time to move on though.  If this year is going to be more of the same might as well give the job to Heard.  Get him some experience.  Swoopes is too slow running and Heard was the first bright spot on his first series.  take the lumps get him in now.  Fix the secondary, Bonney was a disaster.  Let the freshman play and suck it up this year.

Watsons offense was bailed out last year by the defense over and over.  Now the defense is rebuilding and his offense looks worse now than ever.  Look at the last three 3 games.  Then look at UCLA and OU games last year.  We are degressing on offense.

I am just so confused by "How far behind are we" .. the team looks 3 years away. To be honest. Strong doesn't have 3 years. Shawn Watson barely has 1 year. I actually like this staff, so this is a genuine concern.

Did I say all was well? Nah, don't think so. I'm simply speaking realistically rather than sobbing into a watered down glass of jack because I can't handle a good ass kicking. We at no point were considered a team that could upset Notre Dame. Was this worse than I expected? Absolutely. Is it shocking? Not really.

Have you forgotten how terrible we were pre-Strong? Have you forgotten who gave Strong all of these players? Why is it then that Strong is expected to, within a year, have a strongly competitive team?

I'm not kidding. I honestly think some of the people posting have simply never witnessed a rebuild. The ridiculous whining and assumptions that Texas is "done" are insane. This is the kind of material that causes Horn fans to go read the Texags forums. This inane, presumptuous and quite frankly boneheaded thinking is why we're in this problem to begin with.

I've said this once already. This isn't simply a change of coaching. It's a changing of the guard. We're trying to completely alter the mindset, behavior and moxie of this team.

Expecting a six year problem to be fixed in one year is asinine.
But you have to admit, the likelihood of ANYBODY being allowed 6 years for a rebuild is very unlikely these days. That said I realize we are only on year two... And I'd probably be willing to bet that anybody here that is emotional enough to take the time to comment regularly actually legitimately cares about the program, IMO. There is so much to love about what Mack was able to do but so much to dislike about how he left the program... He is the reason we have Swoopes and had Case annnd had Ash. I love Strong but we do need some level of success to aid in recruiting...

Well Strong just stated they went with Swoopes in the 2nd half & didn't mention that Heard was hurt.

To be honest with yall, this is bothersome.

Playing pissed off and playing unsportsmanlike are two entirely different things.
I'll take the occasional penalty that comes with playing pissed off. This ain't the f...ing Lingerie Football League. Good grief fellas this team needs to start knocking the shit out of some people.

Strong confirmed that Heard was not hurt, but did get the wind knocked out of him.  They just chose to go with Swoopes in the 2nd half

Here's your answer on why Heard didn't play in the 2nd half:

yeah pal. I'm not a kid I've been thru good and bad. I've seen fire and I've seen rain.
You act like this is DKR taking over for Ed Price who won 4,5 And ONE the previous 3 years. We won 8,9 and 8 pre-Charlie. Not great at all, but for the love of God, people need to quit acting like UT was Marshall after the plane went down.

I'm not saying it's done. I'm not calling for any firings. I'd like to have seen SOMETHING to make me feel good about tonight. ANYTHING. And I didn't.

Strong says he intended to Run down hill which they didn't do.

gray had less than 10 carries

Strong sounds frustrated, but also a little nervous discussing this loss. (Damn Boosters and their opinions)

I like Strong, I really do but as I listen to him talk is he really sticking up for Swoopes or am I drunk after only 3 beers?

I will say this, he does seem pissed!

I think this is a really truthful post. My concern at this point is whether or not there is enough patience in Austin for Strong to legitimately rebuild. I think we're less than six years away but obviously it's up in the air.

People seem to think that I believe the Horns will win out the rest of the year. I don't. I think this is an average team with plenty of inexperience to hold them back. I didn't enjoy tonight. We played a terrible game. And I seriously question a lot of things about our team. Namely, the decisions the coaching staff made on offense.

But what I'm not going to do is support this notion that the program is doomed under Strong. A lot of people are reacting emotionally to this game and it's clouding their judgement. This program is not beyond repair. It is most definitely in repair but it is not beyond it.

As I said before, freshman were the highlight of this game. If that doesn't make you feel remotely good about 2017 or 2018, I don't know what will.

People have this idea that because we're Texas, we're entitled to a winning program each year. That line of thinking is why the program collapsed into over-valued mediocrity after the 2009 championship game. Strong is desperately trying to get rid of that entitlement. It's taking time. Like all good things go.

I'm not sunshine boosting. I don't think this will be the last time we're feeling this emotional about a loss this year. But I do think that this program is capable of a come back under Strong. And I will defend that opinion if people want to challenge it.
