Tristan Nickelson is a 6'8" 300 pounder. He is the kind of guy Wick can mold into a solid OL.

welcome to the 40 acres tristan nickelson!
quote:

Tristan Nickelson, a 6-foot-9-inch, 319-pound offensive tackle from Navarro College, committed to the Longhorns on Saturday. Nickelson, who was in the stands for the Longhorns' 33-16 win over No. 24-ranked West Virginia, de-committed from Iowa State and pounced on his offer from Texas.

“Texas is a school I grew up cheering for and always dreamed about going to,†Nickeson told Horns247. “I wasn't exactly sure it was going to go down with them, so when they offered it was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I couldn't pass up.â€

A high school player at League City Clear Falls, Nickelson will head to Texas with four years to get in his three seasons of eligibility that remain. Joe Wickline saw Nickelson on a recruiting trip in September and Nickelson's offer was made official Saturday night after he met with Charlie Strong.

“They told me they need help [at offensive line] and that I was one of the guys they want to bring in,†Nickelson said. “They brought be down [after the game] to meet with Coach Strong and that's when they made everything official.â€

From following twitter, I think others are at least leaning to Longhorns, if not silent commits (is there such a thing?).

My thoughts.

1-This is what Wickline does. Gets big bodies that have the potential to put on more muscle/weight in college. The offer really isn't surprising when you look at the Wickline mold at OK.State.

2-If Wickline and Mangino recruit you on the offensive line, you are probably pretty good.

4-I don't care what his star ranking is. I've seen 4 and 5 stars suck azz for years now at Texas on the O-line.

5-Another early enrollee on the offensive line is big.

Cant take credit for this comment but saw it on 247 by a poster but thought it was pretty much spot on

We ran for 200 yards against a ranked team with a line consisting of 4 guards and a DT.

Wickline could extend an offer to a 7th grade volleyball player and I'd trust him at this point.

TEXAS FIGHT TEXAS FIGHT. ..... HOOKEM

Inside Texas says Strong is getting rid of banquet weekend.

Charlie Strong has done away with the antiquated and boorish banquet weekend. Instead he'll honor seniors and their families in a more intimate, Strong conducive setting. One of the main functions of the banquet was as a gathering point for recruits to mingle with current players and seeing what the Longhorn atmosphere is all about. Do you think Strong wants to celebrate this season?

"You now know well that Strong doesn't care for in-season official visits. He'd rather deal with prospects person-to-person where he feels he connects better than during the hustle and bustle of gameday. The plan is to have a big weekend in December and then another one later in January. The December one will be an attempt to get Jefferson and anyone else who wants to visit with him since he announces later that month. The staff just wants the same crack with him in that setting as other coaches. There will be commits interspersed on each weekend for obvious reasons. The one in January will likely be for guys who are strong commits and any late offers or last gasp attempts before signing day. It will be interesting to see when they want the guys who might be wavering to visit. Early to try and solidify them, or late to get last crack at them. To be clear, Charlie did give players the option to take officials earlier but urged them to wait for later
