2015 Recruiting Season is in full swing

JUCO OT Brandon Hodges of East Mississippi CC has set OV to Texas

Will be November 8 - WVU

Here is BON on him --

The lower-rated prospect of the two that Texas offered during the bye week -- with the higher-rated prospect being Mississippi Gulf Coast CC's Martinas Rankin -- Hodges is a consensus two-star recruit ranked as the No. 18 junior college tackle and No. 36 junior college player in Mississippi.

Most Texas fans aren't questioning the prowess of Wickline as an evaluator at the moment, but it is worth saying that the lack of film on the 6'5, 295-pounder (his Hudl profile is set on private) could be impacting his current rankings, as 247Sports hasn't yet rated him. And there are as many good junior college players in the state of Mississippi as anywhere in the country.Regardless, as the current state of affairs has put into sharp relief, the bigger concern at the moment is throwing bodies at the position and hoping that they can stick at tackle.

The serious competition for Texas at this time appears to be South Florida, the other school Hodges is planning on visit. His profile now reports offers from Georgia State, Illinois, Kentucky, Southern Miss, Texas State, and Western Kentucky...........

Some 247 remarks about the recruit battles with ou (note, they are the home team this weekend so get the visitors)

Ryan Newsome (Aledo)
Position: Receiver
Crystal Ball: Texas (72-percent)

Newsome was at one point seen as a heavy Texas lean, but the struggles seen on offense from the Longhorns in the early part of 2014 have hurt the Longhorns’ chances moving forward. However, Newsome delayed his official visit to give more time to get the offense in order. Will it help? Newsome also has official visits set up to UCLA, Tennessee and Oklahoma and recently took his first official visit to Ole Miss.

Anthony Wheeler (Skyline)

Position: Linebacker
Crystal Ball: Texas (62-percent)

Wheeler’s recruitment was once seen as a true back-and-forth between the Longhorns and the Sooners, but Wheeler recently stated that Baylor had jumped the Longhorns for the second place team on his list with a recent push with Oklahoma remaining on top. However, many close to the recruitment feel that Wheeler will ultimately pick between Texas and Oklahoma with Oklahoma still being seen as the favorite for the time being.

Cameron Townsend (Ridge Point)
Position: Linebacker
Crystal Ball: Texas (100-percent)

Townsend is set for an official visit to Oklahoma later in October and recently took an official visit to Oregon State. He plans to have his final decision following his trip to Norman, but prior to his schedule official visit to Texas in the early part of November. He is expected to choose the Longhorns, but taking an official visit following his announcement raises some questions.

Darrion Daniels (Bishop Dunne)
Position: Defensive Tackle
Crystal Ball: Baylor (92-percent)

Texas is on the outside looking in for Daniels in his latest update with Oklahoma, Baylor and Texas Tech sitting closer to the top. Texas, once an afterthought for Daniels, made a big impression on the defensive tackle during a junior day that catapulted the Longhorns close to the top of his list. Since that time, however, the Longhorns have not been able to maintain that place on his list.

Martinas Rankin (Perkinston, Miss./Mississippi Gulf Coast C.C.)
Position: Offensive Line
Crystal Ball: Oklahoma (57-percent)

Texas recently saw the need for junior college offensive linemen and Rankin was one of two that were extended an offer. The Longhorns are getting in a little late, but there is still a chance that they receive an official visit from Rankin and have an opportunity to make an impression. Ole Miss and Oklahoma are the leaders at this time with Oklahoma recently receiving an official visit.

Malik Jefferson (Mesquite Poteet)
Position: Linebacker
Crystal Ball: Texas A&M (58-percent)

Jefferson’s recruitment looks to be an in-state battle, but Oklahoma was the first official offer for Jefferson during the process. It is expected Jefferson will take several out-of-state official visits mixed in with unofficial visits in-state before he is set to make his decision in December following his senior season. Jefferson will also graduate in December and be an early enrollee at the school of his choice.

Vasser played at Nyack High School in Nyack, New York before moving on to prep school at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. At Hargrave, he played with current UGA defensive linemen Leonard Floyd and John Atkins.

He currently plays for Navarro Junior College in Corsicana, Texas. Last season, Vasser recorder 26 total tackles and 4.5 sacks in 12 games. He will have three years to play two in Athens.

Vasser (6-4, 270) was also offered by Maryland and has heard from Florida State, Illinois, Ole Miss, and Pittsburgh. He had an offer to attend Syracuse out of Hargrave, but he didn’t make the required SAT score.

I'm reading too much into it I'm sure but going off of that, it sounds like Malik will be making his decision based on how the RRR plays out this  weekend. (Texas if we win/play really well or A&M if we lose/play poorly)

Ryan Newsome now saying OV to Texas "pending."
He doesn't know if he will take, will decide in a few weeks.
Already visited Ol Miss.
Has Tennessee and ou scheduled.

I know I have a UT bias, but he would be a lot better off playing in the UT defense for the next four years than the aggies.

Midlands mail: Jefferson prediction

Rob Cassidy and Jason Howell

The college football regular season is almost halfway home. The Top 25 looks little like it did in the preseason, which could have an effect on the minds of prospects as they take their official visits. Rivals.com analysts Jason Howell and Rob Cassidy answer fan questions Malik Jefferson, Kansas State's latest target and the effects of Texas A&M's recent slide. What is going on with Malik Jefferson?
Jackson

Malik Jefferson is basically just going about the recruiting process. He is not planning to make his announcement until December and he is looking over his options. He attended the Red River Rivalry over the weekend and he is looking to take an unofficial visit to Texas A&M. He's just taking things in and playing his senior season.

When it comes to where he's going to commit, I'll give my prediction right now. I think Texas A&M is going to be hard to beat. The Aggies have been all over him for years and its close to home. It's a big-time school in the SEC and it is hard to say no to Kevin Sumlin. The Aggies also offered his friend and teammate Deandre McNeal recently and if McNeal chooses Texas A&M, it's another checkmark in the Aggies' column.

All that said, he's not rushing to make his announcement and I expect him to be thorough in his decision process and take a good look at his options

Not that we don't have the talent and speed in Texas but I am definitely happy to have some Florida speed on this team  ;)
