Patterson's comment from the Headliners meeting

Laugh out loud. That was really bad.

I'll leave it just because it's that bad.

cheese...i had no idea what the Headliners Club is either. Google tells me it's a 50-year old private club that meets in downtown Austin and that it is 'invite only'.  which means this will certainly be the last time you, me and the Headliners Club will all be mentioned together.

i can't imagine a space even close to big enough to build a facility on campus. and isn't the erwin center 'relatively close' to campus? how much closer could it be? i don't think distance is keeping students from attending.
Now you're getting into the $10 million dollar question for UT athletics, how to get students to the basketball games?

That's a difficult, ongoing question.

monarch, keep in mind, there is a reason my column is referred to as a view from teh Cheap seats. .

;)

Matt,

I find myself in agreement with S-T-P. . . but if not Bama. . .who is the "face of CFB" so to speak. . . .

yeah...not sure.

i've wondered a couple of things.

is the reality as bad as the perception?. duke's cameron indoor stadium is the gold standard for game day experience and student involvement. the place seats 9300.  9300 in the Drum is a ghost town.

and if the reality IS the reality, maybe we're fretting over something that just is the way it is. Do KU, duke, UK, Syracuse and the like dwell on football attendance? i looked it up one time, and the season opener after the 03 Final Four season, with a preseason top-10 team drew something like 6500. it could be that it just isn't that important to enough people.

Louisville's Yum Center is currently regarded as the model for a city & university collaboration.  I expect we'll get a comparable building in downtown Austin.  Basketball will get a nice boost from a top-notch facility!

Very true .. .

As Groucho once said, I wouldn't be a member of any club that would have me. . . .

Though I will say it is nice to have a discussion about our AD without it turning into a 12 year old smack/shit fest. . . .

No doubt in my mind they are coming. . .

I think Patterson was just jacking with us this year to see if he could make some simpleton posters head explode . . .

It appears to have worked. . . .

:P
