Danny Sheridan: 90 Percent that Lebron Goes Back to Cleveland

Makes sense, he can repair his relationship with the way he left the fans in Cleveland. Shame he has to work for a jerk like Dan Gilbert again.

UPDATE (Tuesday, 7:24 p.m. ET): On an otherwise slow day in the free agency rumor mill, one big nugget arose from Chris Sheridan of sheridanhoops.com. Sheridan, who previously covered the NBA for ESPN and The Associated Press, reports a "plugged-in source" has told him that LeBron James' return to Cleveland is a near certainty, placing the odds at whopping 90 percent. And if LeBron does decide to return to the Cavs, the announcement won't likely be coming via an elaborate ESPN production, but rather LeBron's own website, lebronjames.com. Sheridan said the same source on Monday had pegged LeBron's chances of returning to Cleveland at 75 percent. So, according to this source at least, LeBron is leaning toward heading home and not returning to Miami (or joining Al-Qaeda).

Nate Silver/538 weighed on where Lebron should go
and its neither Miami nor Cleveland

LEBRON JAMES 1:50 PM JUL 10, 2014

LeBron James Shouldn’t Stay in Miami Or Go to Cleveland

By NATE SILVER

The conventional wisdom is that LeBron James will remain in Miami or return home to Cleveland. Neither would maximize his chances of winning a championship — but Cleveland, at least, is on an upward trajectory.

In Miami, James runs the risk of staying too long with a team in decline. The Heat won 54 games last year in a historically soft Eastern Conference and were dismantled by San Antonio in the NBA Finals. As if the Spurs left any doubt, a team with 54-win talent is rarely good enough to win a championship. Since the introduction of the three-point shot in 1979-80,1just one of 22 teams to finish with 54 regular-season wins has won the championship that season.

I’m not cherry-picking data to make the Heat’s case look bad. We can expand the sample to include all teams that won between 52 and 56 regular-season games. There have been 102 such teams — and only three of them won the NBA title.

The answer of where he should go is at the end of the link

i would pick the bulls if i was lebron. better talent and a team that actually plays defense.

Wow, surprised you would contradict the great Nate Silver

I guess his stock has really fallen since his Brazil prediction?

While the Bulls definitely play better defense, this is thanks almost entirely to longtime former Rockets assistant Tom Thibodeau.

Furthermore, no one on the Bulls has more talent than either Dwight Howard or James Harden.

Last season PER

Howard 23.5

Harden 21.3

Best Bull - Noah at 20.0

Next highest Deng at 17.0 who they will not have next season

Spurs won without those numbers.  They play D and pass ball.

Another thing about the Bulls and the "more talented claim" is that they only won 48 games to Houston's 54

Yet the get to play in the weak sister - the Eastern Conference.  This season, the Conference W-L split was 157-120 (.567) which is pretty bad

If you check out the Bulls' splits, they also had a losing record against the West (13-17) this season

They just do not hold up well against the better teams in either conference, but they would probably be a lottery team if they had to try and survive in the West on a regular basis.

In this light, it's easy to see why guys like Lebron and Melo prefer to stay in the East.

Things should get better for the Bulls if they can ever get Rose back on the court, but even so, who knows if, after all he has been through, he will ever get back to his MVP level?

ps --

WOW, gave up on Chicago pretty quick there.

exactly.  i mean if he wants to win, he should go to bulls.
He would be passing up probably $30 million. Since he's also the best player in basketball, the players union does not want him to do that.

$30 Million

Did not give up on Bulls. Just referencing spreading ball and playing good defense wins, hence the Spurs and not the Rockets.
I was equating style of play Bulls/Spurs.

Yeah, given Rose comes back and play up to previous form, Bulls all the way.

I know LeBron to Bulls is 0% chance.

No way he would want to make his third stop in Chicago and thus forever make his career in the shadow of Jordan.
Since being compared to him already, very highly unlikely for him to join Chicago.

Just thinking where KD35 could land next year. Knicks, Lakers, Bulls?

The Bulls were the worst offense in basketball last season at only 93.7 ppg.

That is worst than even Philly and Milwaukee, two of the most offensively challenged teams in years.

And worst than even Orlando, Boston, Utah, Detroit, Sacramento and the Kobe-less Lakers - and those were some bad offenses.  It takes some effort to be worse than all of those guys.  That they were still able to have a winning record says alot about the Bulls' defense (as well as the weakness of the Eastern Conference).

They were also 3rd worst in Hollinger's Offensive Efficiency Rating.

They play a boring Pat-Riley-with-the-Knicks style of walk it up the court and then use all of the shot clock offense.  It is like watching paint dry.  Not surprisingly, they were 3rd worst in Pace in the league.

And here is the kicker, even playing in the 1950s like that, working hard to get the perfect shot, they were still the worst shooting team in the entire league at 43.2% as a team.  And this was not because they were taking 3s (they took 6th fewest of those).  They are just bad on offense.  They play ugly ball.  Sorry.

No Rose bro. Give me apples to apples when Bulls are full strength.

Sorry, Rockets can't play defense even with Howard. Harden sure can't. Lin is a liability. At least your new draft pick can actually play defense.

We can agree to disagree Big John. :)

At the end of the day, defense wins championships. When the Rockets improve their defense, let me know.

Of course.  You get your own opinion, but not set of facts.

And the fact is that the Bulls' offense is the worst offense in the NBA.

No hyperbole, no superlatives.

Statistically, the worst.

And, unlike Philly or Utah or the Fakers, Chicago actually has some talent on the court.

Conclusion?  They have to try pretty hard to be so bad.

The Rox meanwhile were #1 in scoring (including #1 in road scoring at 106.6 ppg)(also were #2 last season, so nothing new)

#1 in 3Ps made

#1 in 3Ps attempted

#5 in Pace

#1 in Rebound Rate (REBR)

#3 in Effective FG% (EFG%)

#2 in True Shooting% (TS%)

#3 in Offensive Efficiency

#3 in both Blocks and Defensive Rebounds (both of which leads to fast breaks)

and #6 in Point Differential (perhaps the single most impt team stat)(Spurs were #1 not surprisingly)

That Pace is primarily what makes the offense exciting and fun to watch.  Naturally, (most) fans like it and respond accordingly.  Except for the 3P shot, these high-pace offenses are somewhat akin to the free-flowing-style NBA of the late-70s - 80s (that era was known as the Golden Age of Basketball for a reason).  Hopefully, its the future of the league.  If the Bulls' style of play is the future, then pro ball is entering the dark ages again.

Give me the facts with Rose in lineup.
