Assistant head coach, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach Jeff Banks is known for his recruiting prowess and is very good at his job. Special teams play wins games for football teams, which is why Banks thought it was imperative to add a dynamic leg to the recruiting class. That leg belongs to Heritage High School’s (Ringgold, Georgia) Jake Collett. Collett was in Austin for a big recruiting weekend on the 40 Acres, and announced his commitment after the weekend wrapped up.
Collett is 6-0, weighs 175 lbs. and has great leg strength and command. The Longhorns needed kicking depth with the departure of 4-year kicker Bert Auburn, who transferred to Miami in the offseason.
He becomes the 10th commit in the Longhorns’ 2026 recruiting class, which is currently ranked 20th in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings.
