  12. Texas Baseball has an RPI of 34 after taking 2/3 from Oklahoma, (RPI 13) The Horns jumped from 53 to 34 this week. That's how impressive this weekend's performance was from an RPI standpoint. Now the real test begins. Horns go on the road vs Baylor (RPI 10,) Ok St (RPI 43,) and TCU (RPI 9,) over the next four weekends. Show well, and we are in a great spot come tournament time.
  13. Longhorns Spank the Sooners 9-3, Off a Stellar Night From the Clemens Brothers By Will Baizer The Longhorns put away the Sooners tonight to the tune of 9-3 and take this year’s series by taking the first two games. However, the game started out less than stellar for the Longhorns. The Sooners came right out of the gate taking advantage of a rocky start for Morgan Cooper. After Morgan loaded the bases, Oklahoma’s star LF Steele Walker knocked a single into left field to score two. It seemed like it was going to be a long day for Morgan Cooper (4-2 with 1.79 ERA). However, after that 4th batter, Morgan Cooper didn’t allow a hit until the top of the 7th inning, retiring 22 batters without a hit. Coach Pierce praised his ace’s turn around after the game by saying, “[Cooper] made a great in game adjustment by really pitching backwards. Going to the curveball early in the count. They’re a really good fastball hitting team, and I thought he did a really good job of mixing up his pitches to get them off the fastball.” Morgan Cooper ended the game allowing 3 ER over 6.2IP and getting 7Ks with 108 pitches. The Longhorns have had trouble giving their arms some back up on the scoreboard. No today. Texas faced the Oklahoma’s Jake Irvin (5-0 with 1.3 ERA), yet they were able to score 2 runs off the Sooners’ ace and force him out of the game after 3⅔ innings. It was a family affair in the Disch as Kody Clemens (2-4 HR and 2B) and Kacy Clemens (2-4 5RBIs and HR) had enormous offensive days for the Longhorns. The brothers together drove in 6 runs and each one of them homered. But it started when the Longhorns responded to the Sooners’ 2 run top of the 1st with a bit of offense of their own. The game started with Kody Clemens taking Oklahoma’s ace, Jake Irvin (), to a ten pitches. Two outs later Travis Jones (2-3 RBI and 2Bx2) doubled, one of his 2 doubles (his 9th and 10th of the season). Kacy Clemens then went on to drive in Jones to cut the Sooners lead to 1. The Sooner lead didn’t last much longer as Kody Clemens took Jake Irvin to deep left field to tie the game at 2. Funnily enough Kody unintentionally called his home run in the dugout before the at bat. “It was funny, in the dugout, I was talking to Nolan Kingham, and I was like, ‘If you hit a fly ball over the stands that block the wind, it’s just going to go because the flags are howling.’ Then I hit it, and it felt really good off the bat. I was just hoping it would catch the wind, and it did. I got into the dugout and Nolan was like, ‘You literally just talked about that,’” Kody recalled. The game stayed tied for one more inning until the bottom of the 5th. Then the flood gates opened. With 2 outs, the Longhorns got SS David Hamilton (0-2 2Rs) on base with a walk. Then Kody Clemens doubled to put runners on 2nd and 3rd base with Tate Shaw (2-5 2RBIs) up to bat with 2 outs. After a fierce at bat, Shaw hit the ball right at Jake Irvin’s left ankle and it took a fortuitous bounce to the right to allow Shaw to reach 1st and Hamilton to score, giving the Longhorns a 3-2 run. But the Longhorns weren’t done. Travis Jones walked to loaded the bases with 2 outs. The team captain Kacy Clemens stepped up to the plate. Next thing the fans knew, the ball was sailing over the right field wall. People we’re on their feet. Echoes of “O-U Sucks” ringing through the air. The cheering didn’t die down until the inning was over. Kacy replayed the home run after the game, “It actually got in on me a little bit. I didn’t fully get the barrel to it, but I knew I got enough of it. Off the bat I thought, for sure double. When you’re rounding the bases, you’re looking for the ball to come down before the wall. And then it goes over. I was fired up.” At this point Oklahoma started to bring out the bench players, but the Longhorns continued the scoring into the 6th inning. Tate Shaw drove in another run when, with bases loaded, he hit it to the 2nd baseman, who wanted to throw to 1st but the 1st baseman wasn’t there. Travis Jones came up right after and hit into a fielder choice that scored another run. Morgan Cooper’s line will show that he let in 3 runs, but the 3rd came in the top of the 7th when Nick Kennedy walked in a run. Blair Henley then came into the finish out the game over the next two innings to seal the win for the Longhorns. When asked what Kacy thought about the season so far, he responded, “This team is weird. We know we have the pieces to the puzzle. It’s just a matter of if we come out and put them together.” The Longhorns are staring a Sooner sweeping in the face on Sunday, as Kyle Johnston takes the mound. -----------------------------------------------------
  14. Hey seamheads, I'm back. It's been a week off for me, but now we get back to it. Game Time: 7 PM Location: UFCU Disch Falk Field TV: Fox Sports 1 Radio: 104.9 FM Audio Stream: www.texassports.com Projected Starters FRIDAY UT RHP Nolan Kingham (4-2, 1.02) vs. Oklahoma RHP Dylan Grove (1-1, 2.88) SATURDAY UT RHP Morgan Cooper (3-2, 1.44) vs. Oklahoma RHP Jake Irvin (5-0, 1.16) SUNDAY UT TBA vs. Oklahoma TBA Seems like this is a weekly statement, but Texas really needs to take this series. OU has been playing well, but I don't believe they're as good as their record, just as Texas isn't as bad as theirs. With D1 Baseball coming out with their mid-season postseason projections, and having Texas as a 3-seed in the Corvallis, OR regional, you can bet that winning and improving their place in the postseason are priorities #1 & #2. While I would absolutely love to see Texas in Corvallis, Oregon State is not really what I'd call a "good" draw. They are playing extremely well right now and are the best team in the nation. Let's see if we can start this thing off with a bang. Aaron Ross will throw out the first pitch. As usual, I'll be on PBP on Twitter, and we'll have discussion throughout the game on here. Look forward to the banter! HookEm!
  15. Hey Seamheads. I'm starting this thread but I won't be doing many updates as I'm in Austin watching my boy. This will be up for the weekend so feel free to chime in and update at will. All three games are on ESPN3 & WatchESPN app
  16. First off, HUGE congrats to Nolan Kingham. Additionally, Nick Kennedy gets the nod on the bump. See y'all tomorrow night! HookEm!

  19. Good Afternoon Seamheads! I'm back Texas vs K State Time: 4 PM TV: LHN Radio: 104.9 The Horn Stream audio: TexasSports.com Live Updates: https://twitter.com/joeywa_44 Matchup: Texas RHP Morgan Cooper (2-1, 2.05) v K State LHP Parker Rigler (2-1, 2.03) Solid outing last night from the boys. Texas had several opportunities to break the game open with some hard hit balls, but they didn't bounce the Horns way. Texas had to settle for a 2-0 W, 4-hit complete game shutout by Kingham. Lineups coming in a bit.
  20. This says it all! Game 3 will begin in about 30 minutes. These guys really need to pull one out. Lineups forthcoming.
  21. Happy Saturday, seamheads! Let's play some baseball. Photo courtesy TexasSports.com Game time: 4 PM CDT TV: LHN Radio: 104.9 FM Stream: www.texassports.com Live updates: https://twitter.com/joeywa_44 Probable matchup on the bump: Texas RHP Morgan Cooper (2-0, 1.88) vs. Tech LHP Steven Gingery (3-0, 1.47) The Longhorns got a great effort from their pitching staff in an unfortunate 2-1 loss last night. The Horns were let down at the plate, chalking up a mere two hits, striking out 11 times and leaving runners in scoring position on multiple occasions. The chances to pull out a victory were there, Texas just failed to capitalize. They'll try to even up the series today. HookEm!
  22. Texas Drops the Pitcher Duel and First Conference Game to Texas Tech 1-2 By Will Baizer It was a good old fashion pitchers’ duel in the first of three vs Texas Tech. The match up was Texas’ Nolan Kingham (2-2, 0.95 ERA) vs Texas Tech’s Davis Martin (3-1, 3.10 ERA) and both pitchers only gave up one run through 6 complete innings. Both of those runs came off solo shots by the 9-hole hitters for each team. Texas Tech’s 9-hole hitter, Michael Davis (1-3 w/1 HR), took Kingham yard, sending his ball over the left center field fence. Texas’ 9-hole hitter, Tate Shaw (1-1 w/1 HR), responded with his very own deep shot over the right field wall, just getting over the glove of a leaping right fielder. However, you know what they say, “If the pitcher needs to throw a shut out then you’re going to lose the game.” Well, that statement doesn’t ring any truer when Kingham takes the mound. It just seems like whenever Kingham gives up a run, the offense cannot get enough firepower to put runs on the board for him. It may seem that way because it has been so far. Two wins with two shut outs. Two loses two games giving up a run. Nolan Kingham pitched 7 complete innings, had 3Ks on 93 pitches, and only allowed 2 earned runs. His ERA still sits at sub 1 despite having 28.1 innings pitched. In fact, he’s only given up 3 earned runs (4 total) this entire year during his 5 appearances. On the other side, Davis Martin had something to prove after Texas took him to town last year during his freshman season when he gave up 5 runs over six innings in his longest career game (103 pitches). This year he took it to the Longhorns surrendering only 1 run off only 2 hits over 6⅓ innings tallying 6Ks. Nolan Kingham gave up just one more run in the 7th inning when Texas Tech put on a hit and run and Mike Berglund (2-4 w/1 RBI) knocked a double into the right field corner. That was enough for the Texas Tech Red Raiders to take the first game in Austin 2-1. Game 2 of the series will begin at 6:30PM and the starting pitcher will be Morgan Cooper --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Happy St. Patrick's Day, seamheads! Photos courtesy UT Baseball Equipment/Texas Baseball Game Time: 6:30 PM CDT TV: Longhorn Network Radio: 104.9 FM Stream: http://www.texassports.com/audio StatTracker: http://www.sidearmstats.com/texas/baseball/ Live Updates: https://twitter.com/joeywa_44 The Horns are coming in hot, having won 6 straight since their trip to California. Tech has been struggling as of late, 5-3 over their last eight, including losses to A&M, UTSA and UTA. Tech is currently ranked #6 in the nation. Probable matchup on the bump: . Texas RHP Nolan Kingham (2-1, 0.42) vs. Tech RHP Davis Martin (2-1, 3.57) We'll do discussion, inning and game updates and possibly green beer and Irish whiskey, all right here at HornSports.
  23. Good afternoon seamheads. Horns going for the sweep today at Disch Falk Field. Game time: 1 PM CST TV: LHN Radio: 104.9 Audio stream: www.texassports.com Live Updates: @joeywa_44 on Twitter Freshman RHP Blair Henley gets the start for the Horns today. Hook Em.
  24. Good afternoon fellow seamheads and Texas Baseball fans. After a tremendous late-inning comeback 5-4 win last night, we'll see the Longhorns take on the Bruins in Game 2 today at 4 PM CST. First Pitch: 4 PM CST TV: Longhorn Network Radio: 104.9 The Horn Audio Stream: www.TexasSports.com Live Updates: @joeywa_44 on Twitter We'll do some inning by inning recaps here as well as host the usual in-game discussion. Nothing is off-limits. Fire away. There is some light drizzle/mist right now, and it looks to be moving out to the NNE. Last update I received was that the game was going to be played as scheduled. If I hear of anything else, I'll let y'all know. Lineups will be posted as soon as I get them. I believe UCLA will go with Freshman LHP Nick Scheidler, (1-0, ERA 0.00) He has only thrown 6.1 innings, all in relief. (Note: This could change.) Texas will go with Morgan Cooper (1-0, ERA 1.89)
  25. Gents, I'm traveling for work tonight and won't be able to do much Game coverage due to flight times. Counting on y'all to assist with an update here and here. HookEm!
