The spring game is just over a week away and the dog days of summer will be upon us soon and I have to admit I have never more excited for a football season to start. Now Don’t get me wrong I don’t expect us to be world beaters from the start but I do anticipate seeing a much more physical team and one that plays with passion. With that said here are a few thoughts as we sit and wait for it all to begin. 1. I think we all know now what kind of coach we got in Charlie Strong. He demands 100% commitment from his players not only on the football field but also in life. 2. Charlie Strong works at his pace and does it his way. This approach in my opinion has upset many message board experts especially in regard to the way Strong has made offers to recruits. Many feel he has offered some recruits way too slow and question why some have not received offers at all. 3.I have to admit I am concerned about what we will get with Watson as a play caller. (I will be watching this closely the first few games) 4. The QB position: What a mess this position has been the past 4 yrs. I know injuries are part of the game but never should a program like Texas not have a backup QB who is capable of completing a 30 yd out pattern. By all accounts David Ash is having a good spring and I expect him to be the game one starter however if he goes down again it might be a bit much to expect Jerrod Heard to come in a lead this team as a true freshmen. 5. RECRUITING RECRUITING RECRUITING : I love all the offers we have made especially to all of the out of state prospects however we have yet to see that one big splash commit happen. Now don’t get me wrong I think Strong & his staff have done a good job of selling what the new UT program is all about but I think the recruits are now in it’s “time to show me modeâ€. The upcoming season is not only big for Coach Strong but it very well could define our recruiting classes for years to come. We need to win and win now.
