At BJ's Brewhouse in Brea, CA with an associate. It's a sports pub/pizza chain in CA. Multiple big screen TVs.
Asked about the NCAA Championship game to be put on the TV. Asked 7 times. FINALLY it gets put on the TV over the bar, but picture-in-picture. Asked to have it put on the big screen...again, and it is now up. Waitress says, "all you have to do is ask." Umm, hello?! We've asked NUMEROUS times for this to happen. Geezus.

Huge series this weekend. I think the Big 12 champion will either be Texas or OU.

I have lost count but I don't think we've had as
many come-from-behind victories in the last two years put together as we have this year.
Our pitchers have been good throughout the year and the bats have really come on over the past three weeks or so. We are also getting very solid defensive play.
Would like to see more power but DFF makes that difficult to gauge.
I am not making any predictions because of my special status at the moment. But as Mark Twain would say in so many words, do not call me an optimist. That would ruin my reputation. However I am not a pessimist.

Good morning all. I'm sitting on a flight to SoCal this morning and baseball is on the brain. I have been sifting through the sites, reading this and that about the Texas baseball team, and figured a good discussion was warranted here on HornSports.

We are officially 1/3 of the way through the regular season schedule. The team sits ranked #10 in the nation with a 14-4 record. Texas has won every series since splitting with a better-than-advertised Cal team to open the season in Berkeley. This includes 2/3 from Stanford, a sweep of the Houston Baseball Classic and 3/4 from Hawaii. It has been a complete 180-degree flip of our 2013 season start.

As the team prepares to begin conference play this weekend at The Disch, I can't help but wonder what everyone here is projecting for a conference record.

Let's first look at what the 24-game conference schedule looks like.

    3/14-16 vs. Kansas @DFF
    3/28-30 @ Texas Tech
    4/4-6 vs. Baylor @DFF
    4/11-13 @ ou
    4/17-19 vs. TCU @DFF
    4/25-27 vs. Ok State @DFF
    5/2-4 @ West Virginia
    5/16-18 @K-State

On first glance, the schedule shapes up nicely, with Texas getting three of the conference's top teams in Austin.

    Kansas Series-Joeywa's prediction: (3-0)
Kansas had been playing some really good ball up until this past week. They were 12-1 after besting Stanford in the Friday game of their weekend series. They have since lost 3 straight and appear to have cooled off a bit with regards to their hitting. Get your brooms out boys, I think we take this one. It's a story of two programs going in different directions.

    Tech Series-Joeywa's prediction (2-1)
Although Tadlock has Tech playing well, outside of an opening weekend series win over Indiana in Lubbock, they have not been tested with a pitching staff like Texas. Yes, winning in Lubbock will be tough! but I see us getting out of there with the series win, albeit not the sweep.

    Baylor Series-Joeywa's prediction: (2-1)
While Baylor currently sits at .500, they have also faced some solid early season competition. They just took 2/3 from early-season #1 Cal St Fullerton this past weekend. As with Tech, I believe our pitching is going to be too much for them, and we take this series.

    ou Series-Joeywa's prediction: (2-1)
This is a tough one to predict. ou is always a tough out. They are currently at 12-5, some decent wins, some ugly losses. I believe we could sweep them in Austin, but I see a tight series in Norman.

    TCU Series-Joeywa's prediction: (2-1)
TCU has some of the better talent in the conference on their roster. They just have not put it together yet. With a record of 9-7, they look to be middle of the pack, but they do have the players to make a visit to Austin a bit troublesome for the Horns.

    Ok State Series-Joeywa's prediction-(2-1)
This series could easily be a preview of a Big XII title matchup in the conference tourney. Ok State is probably the best team in the conference. Yes, they have lost their last three and are 11-5, but I see that turning around this weekend against UT PanAM for three games before they open conference play at Baylor. Because it's in Austin, I say we take 2 of 3.

    West Virginia Series-Joeywa's prediction: (1-2)
The Mountaineers are 8-5, but have an RPI of 23. They're playing pretty good, and Texas has to travel to Morgantown for the first time. West Virginia will be in the midst of an 8-game home stand by the time the Texas series is done, and will have played 12 of 15 at home. I think the long road trip and a seasoned WV team gives the Horns their first series loss of the season.

    Kansas St Series-Joeywa's prediction: (3-0)
Wildcats are 7-7. They're a bit of a sleeper in the conference this year, and could be dangerous on the road. Aw hell, who am I kidding, this ain't football and we bounce back after a tough series in Morgantown to sweep the purple kittens in Manhattan. Augie, Skip and TNik remind the boys that the conference tourney is around the corner and Omaha is on the horizon.

So, to recap, I think Texas finishes the conference at 17-7, winning every series except in WV. I see a 1 or 2 seed in the conference tourney and a possible championship matchup against Ok State.

There you have; I'm officially out on my limb. Anyone care to join me? Let's hear your thoughts.

I'm bumping this up for some further discussion.

I was off on the Kansas series, as I didn't see us losing any to them, yet they took 2 of 3.

Overall, I'm 1 game off of my conference prediction thus far; I had us at 7-2 going into the weekend with ou, and we're actually 6-3.

I'm liking the way the team is playing right now.  The conference series monkey is off our back, and the bats are heating up.

I'm not a premium member (yet). I made a personal decision at the beginning of the year to cancel all my subscriptions, which had honestly gotten out of control. Not just the Longhorn sites, but magazines I never read, genealogy sites I never have time for, podcasts I never listen to, legal insurance I bought because a friend was selling it, AND etc. It sounds ridiculous when I lay it all out there, but over the years it had just accrued.

Of course no one really cares about any of that I just wanted the site owners to know my decision had nothing to do with the content.

I was disappointed when the forums were shut off and am glad the decision was made to allow non-member discussions to take place. I also think it's a smart decision- keep people hanging around talking long enough and eventually they'll want to join the cool club.

Anyway, like any fledgling business they are trying to figure it all out and just wanted to provide some positive feedback.

joeywa reacted to HornSports Staff in UPDATE: PREMIUM ACCESS MODIFICATIONS/POST VISIBILITY
Our new Premium access permissions are now in place.  Thanks to all of our members and the great feedback we received, we feel we have developed a solution to allow post visibility to non-premium members while still providing value to our Premium members.

    Here's how it works:

Premium permissions will be set at the thread level as opposed to the post level.  Essentially, when Horn Sports staff designates a thread as Premium, only Premium Members will be able to view that particular thread.  Only Horn Sports Staff will be able to designate a thread as Premium.

All other threads started by Premium or non-premium members will be visible to all.

As far as content articles are concerned, Horn Sports staff will continue to publish both premium and non-premium articles on the main site.  Premium articles will be made available only to Premium members and non-premium articles will be made available to all.

Thanks for being patient with us while we worked out the kinks in our new platform and access levels.  We look forward to keeping you guys up-to-date with all things Texas as we head into an exciting time on the 40 Acres.

If you guys have any questions or need clarification on anything please let us know.

A simple PM showing support to a non-Premium member would be helpful in letting them know that changes are coming.  I've sent a few, and if I see any others I'll send more.  By this time tomorrow, we should see some of these new changes taking place and hopefully the non-Premium guys can breathe a sigh of releif.

by now..  i am most certain, that many of us have logged on to the site, ventured into an open thread, and WALLAH!  you come across a somewhat disturbing and yet "threatening" posting...  presented by one of our "non premier members".  from my own standpoint, i guess what is most surprising as per this anticipated dilemma...  is that these disturbances, are becoming more substantial by the day.

well "premier members" let us not fret!  we shall not challenge fire with fire...  simply, because these are our "members", and we know that they really would like to remain as such....

therefore, starting right now...  whenever you should come across another "disturbing / threatening" posting as per any of our 'non premier members"...  please, let us perform the most "honorable" courtesy...  and try to reiterate to that particular member, that we want them to remain with "hornsports".  i for one, find this "courtesy" to be extremely important, simply due the fact that...  "hornsports" shall not continue to grow and prosper without a viable, confident, and yet energized membership.

please pardon me...  for i do not see performing this courtesy as "begging" the "naysayers".  nor do i see this as "kissing the ass" of the "naysayers".   i see it, as just being the good people that we are...   and the ultimate reason that we all sign up as members of "hornsports" in the first place.

let us reign in all of our members...

Impressive effort on a gross day (weather). Good to see the team give another solid effort even with a series win in the bag. Really nice to see the lineup working deep into counts and running Newman's count up.

Get out the brooms! Thank you JoeyWa and UTISDABOMB for giving your time on Saturday night to provide excellent reportage of UT Baseball.
    It's much appreciated.
The inability to win a Big 12 baseball weekend series is last year's bad memory and old news...the Horns are BACK in baseball, where we want them to be!

Apologies for my absence this week regarding baseball games/threads.

I was at a conference in Palm Springs, CA, and it kept me pretty busy; so much so that I have not been able to "Go Premium" until just now.

Regarding last night's performance, another testament to the very different character and never-give-up attitude out of this year's bunch that's been missing for a couple of seasons.  Payton; what can I say?  Dude goes down 3-2 with 2 outs; bases loaded; down two, and goes into full count after an absolutely awful call for the second strike.  Takes a pitch that was away down the 3B line for the walkoff 3RBI double.  That kid has stones the size of watermelons.

Last night's heroics in B9 should accomplish a couple of things; A) we should see the fans stick around until the end if the game is relatively close, and Texas carries the momentum and attitude into this game, where as had they lost last night it may have been a bit more pressure/tense atmosphere.
