And yet, with as bad as the pen was, Texas had the 26th best ERA in the country, the best ERA in the B12 and still made it to Omaha as a non-Top 8 seed with all that duct tape and baling wire. But yeah, let’s run off the pitching coach because he had nobody step up into a consistent producer in the Midweek spot. And because of that plus the only two regular starters (Gordon & Hansen) running out of gas down the stretch, Stevens moving to the pen, not a single closer stepping up after Nixon couldn’t figure out FB location and an extremely overused pen, that’s on the pitching coach?

I totally get the Texas battered fan syndrome. And whenever there is a monicker of success from a Big 3 sport, it hardly ever satisfies the fan expectation. Going to Omaha 3/5 years for Pierce & Co is a tremendous accomplishment. Y’all need to take a look at this without tunnel vision. If (when) UT loses Tulo, that can be explained to recruits. Firing Allen, D1 Assistant of the Year last year, and all of the above, is going to adversely affect the recruiting class. Some of these kids that will likely be drafted in later rounds by a MLB team, where they wouldn’t probably go pro before, will now seriously entertain it. Uncertainty in the staff of a team that just went B2B to Omaha, and fires one of the best recruiters and assistants in the country a couple of days after leaving Omaha will lead to exodus. Additionally, some of these recruits as well as ‘23 kids are extremely familiar with Allen as the lead recruiter. Maybe not so much with Pierce. 2023 was going to be a rebuild year anyway, but that was with the returning roster pieces all coming back and the recruiting class not being largely affected by this draft.

This move will likely have ramifications, and not a single one of them good for Texas Baseball. It’s going to take something HUGE to fix this, and I’m not sure it happens. Pierce has to knock it out of the park with the next hires. I sure hope he has some names lined up.

Hell of a time to make this move, on the cusp of moving to the SEC. Showing up there in a truck with two flat ties and no spare is not a good game plan. My 2¢.

I wonder if the Allen decision was made knowing that Tulo might also be leaving.
If the issue with Allen was poor coaching of the pitching staff and not something else, perhaps he could have just returned to being the hitting coach if Tulo left.

Complete head-scratcher to me as to why Sean Allen was let go - makes no sense.  Allen and Pierce are attached at the hip and have been for many, many years.  My guess is this wasn’t David Pierce’s decision whatsoever, but rather he was forced to make a change from someone(s) at a higher level.  Two straight trips to the CWS is impressive (yes, even for Texas).  It is not a given for any team to make it to Omaha.  Hell, Mississippi State won it all last year and failed to even play in a regional this year (first time this has happened to the Bulldogs since 2015).
With Tulo likely going West and Allen now gone, Pierce is going to have to step up the recruiting efforts immensely.    For the fanbase that thinks this season was a disappointment, it can get a whole lot worse.
Allen will get picked up soon elsewhere and will do well, as he has everywhere he has coached.

IMO theremay be something in Allen getting hit by foul ballang coach changefor a few games. Was several games where best relivers came in game first. Won Then back to usingpoor judgement in relievers.
May be nothing just a theory.
Bottom line looked poorly prepared in CWS.Out hit and out pitched
On the two starters running out of gas.N D pltched more innings than Hansonhe looked ok
Its over and done maybe next yeat will bebetter Thanks for all you do for Horns baseball.

I come in peace... but I’ll speak to your response that seemed to have a bit of an irked tone.
you mentioned a handful of pitchers who “didn’t step up.”  Well....
in other words, didn’t perform.  One, in particular, was a shell of himself last year.  This is exactly why the pitching coach was fired.  Maybe it wasn’t his fault... but coaches whose players don’t perform do get fired... nature of the beast.
I’ve been following Texas baseball since the 70s.  And you can make a case that the 8 position players and batting lineup this year was up there with the best Texas has ever had.  A fifth place conference finish with this level of talent is disappointing to say the least.  Moreover, for one of - if not the most storied baseball schools in the nation.... two and through in the CWS (with this year’s talent) is a disappointment as well.

Joey, as always you did a great job of play by play per half inning or so. Thanks for doing it even if watching the game love your insight as well.

Needs to keep the ball down.  Living upstairs against this team has potentially bad results.
