I'm thinking it's Pandora's Box, it's too late. Anyone want to guess on which schools are being looked at? 😉

NCAA to review NIL policies, including impact on student-athletes and potential recruiting violations (espn.com)

The NCAA "regulating" anything is laughable. It is a bloated, ineffectual bureaucracy whose time has passed. I guess you can argue they run pretty good basketball and baseball tournaments. NIL deals will turn out to be a helluva lot more expensive for BMDs than under-the-table payments.

Oh, look, they're hot on aggie's tail now!

I remember seeing one of Daingerfield's best teams ever that didn't make the playoffs. It was 1977. Daingerfield went 9-1 that year and didn't win the district.

Last game of the year had Daingerfield and Atlanta both undefeated and playing for it all. Atlanta had the heralded Phillip Epps (later of Green Bay fame) and Daingerfield had all-state John Rogers (also went pro). The game was played in Atlanta.

Despite both teams having such explosive offenses and were killing people each week by huge margins, Atlanta ended up with a 6-3 win that night. Defense won the day. And it could have gone either way. Daingerfield was driving for a score as the clock expired.

Even today people say those were the two best teams in the state that year in class AAA. Only one made the playoffs.

Man, those were the days . . .

Back when a District Championship really meant something.

We had two teams from each district qualify in 1986. I find it laughable that we've now got 4. Some clearly don't belong, but not all districts are created equal.

Some FBS universities are making out quite well in this role.

    True story.

I just get a little put off by those who say D1 universities are "the plantation" and they're exploiting these athletes. Hardly, when you consider - what - only 2% of college footballers play in the NFL? Many college students would consider free tuition, room & board, books, clothing, meals, and tutoring is a pretty damn good deal at UT. Plus under-the-table monies from jock sniffing alumni. Now we've got bidding wars, thanks to NIL. Unsavory

I've said for the past few years and continue to believe that college football in 5-10 years will look completely different. Super conferences will rule the landscape, players will get better pay (even with NIL in place) and the NCAA as we've known it will get kicked to the curb. I also think that letters of intent will become binding contracts that will lock a player to that school for the length of said contract and players will be unable to leave a school until the contract expires  or unless two schools can agreed to a trade. You might also see no-trade contracts in place. Essentially Power 5 football will be the NFL 2.0. I hope I'm wrong, a lot of signs are pointing that way. Maybe 64ish teams in 4 super conferences. Each conference with 2 divisions. Winners of each division get auto qualifiers into the postseason along with 4 at-large teams for a 12-team playoff. You might even see a player draft instead of recruiting. Something to ponder until next week.

P5, and FBS football, is already the NFL's minor leagues and has been for decades. What percentage of UT's football players would qualify academically if they didn't play ball? I wish it were more collegiate, but those days are gone forever. Just win, baby!

NFL has gotta love FBS universities footing the bill for their future players' development.

No idea what UT is going to get at WR via the transfer portal.  So far though, the Sark/Ewers effect doesn't seem to be the attraction we (I) thought it would be.  Maybe they have a another plan in place, but so far it seems to be a whiff, at least from the outside looking in.

I have no idea what UT is going to get on the OL or DL, either.

Change thread title to CFB Transfer Portal News. It's more appropriate and accurate.

JB, Allow me to correct you, please.

It DID suck at times last year. That doesn’t mean it sucks now, and it doesn’t mean it sucked all the time last year.

You are very knowledgeable about football.  Your statement, however, was incorrect, at least in my humble opinion.

    Total Defense ranked #100

Out of 130 (yeah, that's way too many) FBS teams.....at Texas. Rushing D ranked #114. Passing D ranked #62. Tell me again why we're keeping PK? Is it a bad scheme or are the players not getting it done? Both?

I appreciate your passion and optimism, @java, but I haven't seen anything on that side of the ball to be enthusiastic about yet.

We are second fiddle to no one!  Why?  Because I said so, that’s why.

If you think so, fine, there is the door.  I am sick of that crap!  You have a loser mentality, not the guys that give it everything they have.  You are the ones that boo if things go wrong, that leave before the Eyes, and whine if the QB throws an interception.

Our last two coaches may have screwed the pooch, but that in no way means that our team is composed of losers.  Now cut the crap, or find another team!  I went to Texas, paid for my child to go to Texas, and you need to put up or shut up.

Great fundraiser. Closed 2 great basketball coaches. Got Herman out when he should’ve, and got Texas into the sec.

Hell, UT to the SEC didn't take any salesmanship. They wanted us - not Arkansas - back in 1990. It's been on the back burner for decades.

CDC should share the "credit" with Prez Hartzell.

Complete understand what you are say and agree. But how long has it been since we put an LB in the NFL? I think the 5 stars are going to those schools--SEC, Big 10, not the pass happy leagues. Don't see why we can't get any 4 stars that want to BE the turnaround.

    Good point.

The prototypical Mike doesn't want to chase slot receivers around like a nickel or dime. We've gotta find more Overshowns who can put on good weight, don't overrun plays, and read & react better. Tough to be a true run-stopping LB in the Big 12.
