I think this game is close in the 4th quarter and it will be up to Quinn Ewers to show that he can close this game.  He hasn't shown that yet and Washington QB Michael Penix is a guy that has thrown for over 4K yards on the season.  He makes his bread and butter on the long passes/ the deep ball and I can't see this Texas secondary stopping it all night.  I hope I'm wrong...

Elaborating on the comment I made in the prediction about the running game, it will be interesting to see how Sark distributes the carries.  He has already said that Robinson, Brooks and Blue will all play - who is the "featured" back and how he uses them will be something to keep an eye on.  I'll say this too - if Texas can get the running game going against what is a not-so-good Huskies defense, Texas may just pull this game off.  Washington won't be able to run against the Texas defense, so the linebackers and secondary MUST play solid ball if Texas wants to win this game.

This game is important for a ninth win but it also sets the tempo for next season.  'Horns need this one.

Confirms what we we were hearing earlier this week.

Beautiful day in Austin for football.  And one of the few night games we will likely get to see this season.

The West Virginia Mountaineers head to Austin this weekend, a place they have won four times before, holding a 2-2 overall record on the season.  The Mountaineers evened things up with a 33-10 win over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg last weekend. Neal Brown's offense is led by Georgia transfer quarterback and former 5-star recruit JT Daniels. 

Texas got the better of West Virginia last season and left Morgantown with a 31-23 victory.  The two-headed monster of Bijan Robinson and Roschon Johnson did the most damage in the game, with both surpassing the century mark on the ground.

The Longhorns look for another strong rushing performance against a stout West Virginia defense which ranks 23rd overall and allows approximately 302 yards per game.

Steve Sarkisian will likely start Hudson Card at quarterback, while Quinn Ewers wraps up rehabbing his injured clavicle.  The Texas offense will need to be creative and find ways to open up the passing game - something they struggled to do in last week's loss to Texas Tech.

The loser will drop to 0-2 in conference play and essentially find themselves in dire straits as it pertains to making an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game in December.

The Longhorns are favored by 9.5 points in this game.

The Texas Longhorns (0-0, 0-0 Big 12) host the University of Louisiana-Monroe Warhawks (0-0, 0-0 Sun Belt) at Darrell K. Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium in the season opener for both programs.  Texas' Steve Sarkisian and ULM's Terry Bowden are both in their second year as head coaches of their respective programs.  Both teams had losing records last season, with the Longhorns ending their season with a win over Kansas State after losing their previous six games.   Like Texas, the Warhawks did not go bowling after losing their final five games and finishing the season with a 4-8 record.

Both teams look to improve on last season's efforts, with the Longhorns replacing former star quarterback Sam Ehlinger with Ohio State transfer Quinn Ewers.  The Warhawks will give the starting nod to sophmore Chandler Rogers who played in all 12 games for ULM last season.

The Longhorns are 110-16-3 (.863) all-time in home openers, with wins in their last four.

I had a chance to talk to Connor and his dad today on their drive home from UT, post-OV.  Can't tell you how impressed I am with him, his family and who they are as humans.  You guys have all heard that he is a Texas A&M legacy, and the fact that he chose to commit to Texas truly says something about what he feels Sarkisian is building at Texas.  The decision to play at Texas was Connor's, with his dad Nick and his mom and the rest of his family in full support.  I mentioned in the commitment post that choosing A&M would have been the easy decision, but Texas was on him early and often (offering him before the Oklahoma State game last season) and it REALLY made an impression.  I was told that heading into his trimmed list of 5 schools (Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Texas A&M & Texas), that Texas was the school to beat.  After his visits to 4 of the 5 of those schools, followed by his last OV which was to Texas, the Longhorns were still #1 on his list.

If you have kids, you know what it means to want the best for them and to support them unconditionally  What I admire about the Stroh family other than their incredible integrity, is their unconditional support of their son.  Imagine if you and your wife and extended family members all went to Texas....  and your son ended up committing to play football at Texas A&M.  Would you wear maroon in his support? 

Expect the Stroh family to wear burnt orange in support of Connor, despite the negative things you may read about them on message boards of schools that didn't land his commitment.  I've seen some nasty comments, which is hard to digest.... College football is awesome and if I had the good fortune to watch my kid play at a D1 school, you can bet your ass I would wear his school colors.

I'm looking forward to watching Stroh’s development, as he will be an integral part of the Texas offensive line in years to come. 

Complete head-scratcher to me as to why Sean Allen was let go - makes no sense.  Allen and Pierce are attached at the hip and have been for many, many years.  My guess is this wasn’t David Pierce’s decision whatsoever, but rather he was forced to make a change from someone(s) at a higher level.  Two straight trips to the CWS is impressive (yes, even for Texas).  It is not a given for any team to make it to Omaha.  Hell, Mississippi State won it all last year and failed to even play in a regional this year (first time this has happened to the Bulldogs since 2015).

With Tulo likely going West and Allen now gone, Pierce is going to have to step up the recruiting efforts immensely.    For the fanbase that thinks this season was a disappointment, it can get a whole lot worse.

Allen will get picked up soon elsewhere and will do well, as he has everywhere he has coached.

The Longhorns head to Ames, Iowa this week to face the Cyclones and hope to avoid a four-game losing streak by leaving Ames with a win.  Matt Campbell and Iowa State own a two-game win streak against Texas, and they also have a nine-game winning streak against Big 12 opponents at home.  The task for the Longhorns will be to limit running back Breece Hall, the Big 12's leading rusher (averaging 123 yards per game), while ensuring Casey Thompson has success and time to make passes downfield.

The Cyclones rank 15th in the nation in total defense, which means Steve Sarkisian's offensive game plan needs to be multi-dimensional and full of wrinkles.

Both teams are reeling from losses, with Texas losing in Waco to the Bears 31-24 and Iow State losing at West Virginia 38-31.

Chris Beard and the Longhorns will host Texas Lutheran in an exhibition match tonight at the Frank Erwin Center at 7:30 PM.

Former Texas player Mike Wacker is in his sixth season as head coach at Texas Lutheran.

The Longhorns will officially open the season on Tuesday, November 9th against Houston Baptist University.

BU kicks a 38 yard FG to take a 10-7 lead over Texas, :56 remaining Q1.  Moral victory there by the Teas defense to hold the Bears to just 3.

Baylor's Tyquan Thornton hits RJ Sneed in the end zone and Baylor ties it up at 7-7.  Bears drove 75 yards downfield and moved the ball at-will on that drive.
