TCU transfer and defensive end Ochaun Mathis made his top two schools public on Tuesday, announcing his decision to play at either Texas or Nebraska would come on Saturday, April 30th. Mathis made the announcement via his YouTube documentary, which was filmed at Manor High School in Manor, TX.
Mathis is arguably the best player available in the Transfer Portal, along with former Sun Devil linebacker Eric Gentry.
He entered the portal on January 14th and announced his Top 5 schools of Texas, Ole Miss, Penn State, Nebraska and USC a month later.
Mathis would provide an immediate improvement in the pass rushing capabilities of the Texas defense, which declined substantially after Joseph Ossai's departure to the NFL.
His former coach at TCU, Gary Patterson, is the special assistant to Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian. The connection there cannot hurt.
Mathis started 34 games for the Horned Frogs over the course of four seasons.
Last season he had 45 total tackles (7 for loss) and four sacks. In 2020 he had 46 tackles (14 for loss) and nine sacks.
