Texas welcomes in #4 ranked TCU Saturday night in what is their biggest conference home game in many years. TCU is looking to make their first ever college football playoff appearance. On the other side, Texas hopes to continue their progress and get one step closer to their second Big 12 title appearance since 2009.

Over the last 12 years, Longhorn fans get excited for this game and end up being let down, in most cases, by the end of the night. It’s time for Sark and company to show the nation things are changing in Austin.

A win at DKR on Saturday would put Texas in the driver’s seat to be the team that faces TCU in the Big 12 Championship game. Not to get too far down the path of Big 12 tie breakers, but Texas needs to win out in order to control their own destiny and earn a spot at AT&T Stadium in December. Clinching a spot in the Big 12 title game would be massive for the present and future of the program.

For years now recruits and fans have been looking for a reason to be optimistic about the program’s trajectory. We saw it briefly in 2018 with the Big 12 title appearance and Sugar Bowl victory. Unfortunately Tom Herman was unable to capitalize on it and was fired two years later. If Texas can win a conference championship for the first time since 2009, they will finally make it over the hump.

Recruits are always looking for a reason to come to Texas. While there are so many reasons, the primary element keeping many five stars away is the product on the field. Winning cures all, and winning the Big 12 this year would prove that the on-field product is improving and on its way back to what it was previously in Austin.

While this is just one game, Texas has a chance to beat a top 5 team at DKR for the first time since Nebraska in 1999. There isn’t a way to overstate how big this win would be for the Longhorns.

It should be a great atmosphere in DKR on Saturday night and Longhorn fans should enjoy it and soak it in.
