Morgantown, WV -- After a doubleheader yesterday the Longhorns seemingly ran out of gas in Sunday's matchup against the Mountaineers. Stranding runners on base and pitching woes haunted Texas, with five pitchers giving up a combined eleven hits including three doubles and a triple.  Longhorn batters also left ten runners on base.

The 'Horns started off fast in the first inning with a single up the middle from Douglas Hodo III who was then driven in by Ivan Melendez with an RBI double down the left field line. Austin Todd followed with a full count walk and was driven in by Murphy Stehly on an RBI groundout. Keeping the momentum rolling, Dylan Campbell smacked an RBI single to right center to bring in Melendez and giving Texas a 3-0 lead.

West Virginia evened the score in the 2nd with a 2-RBI single to right field and a shallow RBI triple to left that was just out of reach for Campbell to make a play on.

Zane Morehouse started the game for Texas. A smooth sailing first frame followed by a 3 run second forced Head Coach David Pierce to pull him in favor of Tristan Stevens, who has been playing in a reliever role as of late.

Texas and West Virginia went back and forth in the fourth frame. Hodo regained the Texas lead with a 2-RBI single up the middle, but an eventual bases loaded fly out ended the inning. The Mountaineers responded with a 2 out RBI double off the left field wall to tighten the Longhorns' lead, 5-4.

The 'Horns failed to capitalize for the rest of the game, leaving runners on base each inning and giving way for the Mountaineers to capture and hold the lead.

West Virginia responded in the 6th with a three run inning. After loading the bases by a single, hit batter, and a bunt for a single, Dayne Leonard smacked a 3-RBI double to left field. They notched their final run in the eighth with an RBI double to left.

Texas attempted to rally in the ninth, scoring a run from an RBI grounder from Campbell but it wasn't enough.

Texas will look to bounce back against Texas Southern at Disch-Falk Field on Tuesday, May 10th at 6:30 PM. The game will air on Longhorn Network.

Game Stats:

Dylan Campbell: (3-5), 2RBI
Douglas Hodo III: (2-4), 2RBI
