AUSTIN, TX -- The Jayhawks return to Disch-Falk FIeld for game two after the Longhorns secured a decisive 12-4 victory in the series opener. The momentum flowed early and often on Friday night, in another definitive defeat of the Jayhawks.
The Longhorns began with another quick start in the first inning. Eric Kennedy batted second in the order and showed his power with a solo homer through right field. Ivan Melendez subsequently followed with his 28th homer of the season, tying Kyle Russell's 2007 campaign for most home runs in a season in Texas history. Murphy Stehly continued with a single up the middle and was driven home by an RBI single from Skyler Messinger to give Texas an early 3-0 lead.
A run from each team in the third frame saw the Jayhawks get on the board with an RBI groundout while the 'Horns answered with an RBI single from Daly that scored Messinger to maintain the four run lead for Texas.
Eric Kennedy smacked his second homer of the game in the fourth, while Austin Todd registered his fifth homer on the season in the fifth frame to extend Texas' lead, 7-1.
The Longhorns continued their momentum in the seventh with a double down the left field line with Todd getting on base with a single to left field. Messinger knocked an RBI fly out to center to score Murphy Stehly and finalize an 8-1 victory for the 'Horns.
With the 8-1 win the Longhorns maintain their streak of being 26-0 on the season when holding the opponent to two runs or fewer on the season.
Texas will look to sweep the series with a 2:30 PM matchup with the Jayhawks on Saturday, May 21st. The game will air on Longhorn Network.
