MORGANTOWN, TX -- Due to Friday's postponement, a doubleheader with a quick 30 minute turnaround was necessary for Saturday's second meeting between Texas and West Virginia. With Texas taking game one, the momentum flowed seamlessly into an avalanche in game two.
Texas starting pitcher Lucas Gordon had a fantastic outing having faced just 22 batters through seven innings, including five strike outs and only two hits on the evening. He faced the minimum through six frames with the lone fourth batter coming in the last inning.
Austin Todd kickstarted the offense with a first inning double down the left field line. Ivan Melendez followed up with a 2-run homer out of center field, the first of two in the game. Dylan Campbell touched home in the 2nd after a passed ball extending Texas' lead to 3-0.
The 'Horns kept the momentum in the 4th and 5th innings with a solo homer to dead center from Douglas Hodo III and two 2-run homers from Trey Faltine and Austin Todd, respectively, increasing the Longhorns' lead to 8-0.
Texas wouldn't stop in the 6th and 7th, as Dylan Campbell reached home on a loaded bases throwing error from the Mountaineers' catcher, followed by another 2-run homer from Melendez giving him three homers between the two games on the day.
The run rule went into effect after the 7th, giving the Longhorns an 11-0 victory and the series claim on the road.
Texas returns on Sunday for a noon showdown and a possible sweep of the Mountaineers. The game will air on ESPN+.
