  3. What am I missing?....the wolves seem to be out after Casey, who has shown to a baller when healthy. HE HAS A HURT THUMB!!!! None of you arm chair QB's can grip your golf club with a bum thumb, why be down on Casey trying to grip a football? If it gets better he will be fine. If not then we have a week and a half to get Card ready. We have been crapping on the whole team for being crap in the 4th qtr.....but I think to some degree the last 2 games we have gone as Casey's thumb has gone. It starts ok....bandage good, painkillers holding......but as the game goes on and the thumb is taking a beating, it all goes to hell. Should Sark bring in Casey sooner? I am not privy to what is being discussed and why, but with as much at stake as Sark has here I doubt he is simply forgetting Card is sitting on the bench. strange game, football....

  5. I've disagreed with most of the posters on this board from time to time. We all have. I think what we object to is that a new person comes on and harps on one thing over and over when it's obvious we have more problems than 1 player can fix. To say a good coach has become incompetent since coming to Texas is just making things worse for you. To me, our last few coaches overestimated the players we had when they took over. Sark is at least trying to get the ball in the hands of our playmakers. Now it's up to him to fix what he sees as problems. It's not going to happen overnight or by switching to one player. I wish it were that simple.

  8. Although not an expert, I do believe Texas schemed and performed very well in the first half against the sooners. They failed to adapt to the QB change and played a lot of prevent type defense which proved extremely costly. Kansas seemed prepared to stop the run and make Williams beat them. In the end, they did not have the talent to sustain it for 4 quarters. I missed a lot of the OSU game and have not had the stomach to go back and watch it so I am not sure where all the breakdowns occurred. Another issue with our defense in both games in my opinion is that we do not have an offense that can wear opponents down or dominate the time of possession for an entire game. Thinking about the teams that have had success slowing down OU, they have sustained drives and controlled the clock. Whether it is the OL, lack of development, coaching, or a combination of all of the above, the most successful defenses have complimentary offenses that control the game. We have not demonstrated that so far. All of these issues lead me to believe the "close" comment by Sark is likely not the comment he is making behind closed doors to the defensive or offensive staffs. At least I hope it is not. Sorry for the lengthy post, bored without a Longhorn game to watch....or cry about.

  10. From The Brainiacs today: "Quency Wiggins, Larry Turner-Gooden, Malik Agbo, Jacoby Matthews and Earnest Greene." The above list of recruits who visited the past weekend were said to be ones that the staff feels very good about, based on their visit experience and in talking with them. TFB thinks Texas gets at least three from that list.

  11. I think it's BS. If it's "good journalism" as our panic queen claims, then why was the journalist seemingly afraid to state the entire list of facts? It's hard to make someone look bad when they lead the conference in QB rating. Presenting one side of the story is the chronic problem with today's media. When the story well is dry, this is what the unethical writer does. And there is, unfortunately, an audience out there who just eat it up because it serves their agenda. I ran a newsroom for 20 years. This is a story I would have wadded up and thrown at the writer. "When the QB can't throw" . . . this is a piss poor opinion that is easily debunked by the nearest chimpanzee. In one paragraph where he notes that Thompson was either hurt or off his game – he fails to mention a very important point – that Sark had more trust in Thompson, hurt, than he did with fresh legs Card. Wow, how do you miss that?

  30. I'll slightly agree on needing more safeties. But when you look at corners: Jameson, Cook, and Dunn could be back. Not certain if they will. After that we have : Caldwell, Crawford, Barron, Ibraheem, and J. Johnson. Plus we have Lewis coming in with size and long arms and the coaches seem to have liked what they saw in him at the camp. Remember most of those that do the ratings go by what they see them at their camps. Not actual game film until late in the rankings. Then at wrs: outside of Worthy and Whittington, who seems to be injured more times than not, who are we claiming as difference makers? Moore? He is as much likely to be a difference maker and having legal issues. Omiere is coming off back to back knee surgeries, Alexis has the speed, but coming off knee surgery, Harrison hasn't seen the field as I know of, and Woodard/ Washington both have been here long enough to show that they don't get separation from defenders and drop more passes and catch the ball. Again, not certain what we end up with, but we could take upto 10 more and probably do that again next year if we get enough mutable agreements to go separate ways with enough guys. Plus any GT leaving and/or coming in. Warren should be at DE not DT. Now with at least 6 DL coming in as of now, where and who in Coburn, Omojo, Sweat, and Gorman-Welch fit in? BTW, none of them are defensive playmakers like Blow U has in Winfrey or what Alabama had last year in Barmore at the DL. We have to remember we are working with a new staff not trying to burn bridges while fixing that of Herman and Strong failures at getting both the best and the most from the players we currently have. While getting recruits to see and understand the future at Texas. If LTG, is thankful for a bag, is he sure it came from God? It is the SunDevils afterall. Asking for a friend?

  31. After 7 straight weeks of football, Texas will get a chance to catch their breath this weekend during their bye week. The Longhorns sit at 4-3 in Steve Sarkisian's first season and have experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows during the last two weeks. There are two ways to look at where Texas currently is and where they could be by the end of the season: Glass half empty approach Texas has been gashed on the ground far too often through 7 games. The Longhorns rank 112th in the country in rush defense and are averaging over 200 rushing yards allowed per game. Arkansas and Oklahoma both ran for over 300 yards with little resistance. There have been games where tackling and taking proper angles have been a major issue. Remember that Texas still has to face Breece Hall and Deuce Vaughn. Despite starting 4 (sometimes 5) seniors in the secondary, Texas is currently ranked 72nd in pass defense. Pete Kwiatkowski's defense relies on limiting big plays, which is something Texas has not done very well. The defensive line, which was thought to be a strength heading into the season, has been a weakness thus far. The Longhorns are averaging under 2 sacks per game and have been unable to generate consistent pressure. As mentioned above, defending the run hasn't gone much better. Kwiatkowski and Steve Sarkisian tried to patch up some holes by taking a handful of linebackers and edge players from the portal, but it is obvious something is lacking up front. There has been individual flashes from various players, but the lack of consistency is disappointing considering the experience the Longhorns have. The offensive line has not improved from a season ago. Despite losing Sam Cosmi to the NFL, it was thought the OL unit would take a step forward with the 4 starters that returned. Instead, the unit has continued to struggle with communication and allowing free rushers into the backfield. Senior guard Denzel Okafor going down with a season ending injury as complicated matters more as Kyle Flood has been forced to shuffle his lineup the last two weeks. The offense has a whole has completely disappeared in the second half of the last two weeks. The Longhorns recorded 1 total yard in the 4th quarter against the Cowboys and recorded their last first down of the game early in the 3rd quarter. Casey Thompson, who is currently battling an injured thumb, did not play well last week or against TCU and has now thrown an interception in 4 of his 5 starts. The biggest reason for pessimism has been the inability for Texas to close out games. Bijan Robinson willed Texas to a win Fort Worth, but if it wasn't for his heroic efforts there is a real chance the Longhorns would currently be sitting at 3-4 with back-to-back-to-back double digit leads blown. Glass half full approach Texas should be 6-1 right now. The Longhorns outplayed a top-5 Oklahoma squad for 3 quarters and had a top-15 Oklahoma State team on the ropes late in the first half. The Longhorns have done a much better job starting fast under Sarkisian than in previous years. The offense has scored on their opening possession in every Big 12 game so far. The opening script to games has been fantastic and Texas has done a good job of exploiting matchups in the first half all season long. Xavier Worthy might be the best WR in the Big 12. The freshman is on pace to finish the season just shy of 1,000 yards receiving and stepped into the #1 WR role despite only arriving on campus in June. Sarkisian has done a good job of utilizing Worthy in a number of different ways and getting the ball in his hands. Bijan Robinson is still Bijan Robinson. If it wasn't for the last two losses, the sophomore is likely one of the frontrunners for the Heisman trophy. Despite inconsistent offensive line play and loaded boxes, Robinson currently sits at 930 rushing yards and is averaging over 6 yards a carry. Texas has a very manageable back end of the schedule. Yes, the Longhorns are traveling to Baylor and Iowa State the next two games, but they also get to finish the year against Kansas, West Virginia and Kansas State (combined 0-9 in Big 12 play so far). If Texas can secure a win against the Bears or Cyclones, they have a real chance of winning 4 of their last 5 games to end the year. Final Thoughts Steve Sarkisian must find a way to get his team to respond after the last two weeks. Texas still has an opportunity to finish strong and build momentum, but the margin for error is slim. Sarkisian talked earlier this week about needing his players to get away from the mindset of waiting for something bad to happen. This program has been in way too many one possession games over the last 5 years and that can be contagious. Texas has been known to play up and down to competition and that is something Sarkisian is going to have to really work on reversing. The Longhorns have shown the potential to beat good teams handily, but until they put together 4 quarters of complete football, the frustration will continue to mount.

  32. Just guessing it was a senior moment on not commenting further until signing day? Just MPO, but we get 3 solid OL and 2-3 DBS with 2-3WRS. Then add 3 solid or more players via the portal and lose upto 10 players that won't matter that you claim matter. Like I've said we could lose 10 via the portal and theat won't matter again next year. Seems like it's difficult for you to understand, but the portal is and will be both helpful and worrisome for us and anyone other team out there. Needing 2-3 OL via the portal that are the right fit and 1-2 DB that can help out right away. But don't take away from the numbers needed to keep us from getting the best players. We nor any team is saying "NO" to a 5* player at any position like you seem to be willing to do. That's bad coaching on your part and understanding! What is straight talk from the coach BTW? What you what to hear? Or what is realistic talk from a coach? But what till after the 1st signing day in December to answer? Is that possible?

  39. My post pretty much spelled out we need to get three developed upper class offensive lineman so we aren’t throwing our freshman out there too early. I don’t think Kyle Flood is bad at developing so I think Arch will be fine there. Alabama’s offense hasn’t look the same as last year. I’m sure Sark can sell Arch on why that is. Remember, they weren’t gonna miss Sark because they just reload every year. I think Sark has shown he knows how to utilize talent. I’m sure the Manning family is wise enough to see that. And they know Sark can develop QB’s. I don’t think Card was a 5 star. And Card isn’t Arch Manning. You’re assuming that we will lose with Casey and win with Card? If not, it’s kinda pointless to go back to Card right now just to let him get his lumps. We’ve seen Card when a defense is teeing off on him. It’s not a good luck. Baylor & Iowa State have good defenses. It’s not a good time to throw him back in there. Whose team would you like for it to be this year? Bijan is the best running back in the nation. He would be the guy for any team he played for. He need to use him more in the pass game and out in space but it’s the right move making him the focal point of the offense. The receivers aren’t proving anything outside of Worthy. The QB’s aren’t gonna do enough, no matter who plays, with a poor line & inconsistent receiver play. This has to be & should be Bijans team. And it should be next year as well. He is the person who will allow those fast receivers to get one-on-one coverage to beat their man. He’s the one who will open up the RPO throws and play action shots. If you don’t utilize Bijan, Sark’s offense kinda stalls.
