  1. Let's jump straight into it as the Longhorns moved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in conference play. Steve Sarkisian was the first person to admit after the game that Texas was very sloppy at times today. The Longhorns settled for field goals far too often in the red zone and struggled mightily to get the passing game going. Despite all that, Texas was able to beat a team they were 2-7 against the previous 9 years. TCU made their fair share of mistakes as well, but this certainly felt like a game Texas would have lost in previous seasons. Bijan Robinson put the Texas offense on his back. The sophomore carried the ball 35 times for 216 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He was the best player on the field and Steve Sarkisian showed no hesitation in putting the ball in his hands with the game on the line. If Robinson continues to build on what he's done through the first 5 games of the season, he should be in New York in December. The Texas receivers struggled today outside of Jordan Whittington. Xavier Worthy had several drops and was a non-factor for most of the afternoon and Joshua Moore was only able to catch 3 passes for 13 yards. Marcus Washington played a good amount and continues to show excellent effort as a blocker, but Texas will need more consistency from the position group moving forward to help out Casey Thompson. Speaking of Thompson, he experienced some struggles today for the first time in his career. He completed 12 of 22 passes for 142 yards and a touchdown along with a bad interception. The interception was a bad decision to throw into triple coverage down the field to Xavier Worthy. Worthy was being held on the play and it probably should have been a flag, but Thompson simply can not make that throw. He also forced several other throws into tight windows that could have been picked off. He did rebound nicely to throw a touchdown to Whittington on a RPO early in the 4th quarter. The Texas offensive line had an up and down day, but the biggest storyline was the injury to Denzel Okafor. Once Okafor went down, Kyle Flood opted to slide Derek Kerstetter inside to LG and insert Andrej Karic at RT. Karic had several nice blocks in the running game and appeared to play well off the bench. Pete Kwiatkowski and the Texas defense did enough to get the job done. The Longhorns forced 2 defensive turnovers (the 3rd turnover came on special teams) and should have had another when both DeMarvion Overshown and Luke Brockermeyer had their hands on a Max Duggan pass. Kwiatkowski appeared content with getting TCU to dink and dunk their way down the field while waiting for a mistake and limiting big plays. The plan worked for the most part as the Horned Frogs were unable to push the ball down the field through the air. The lone sack for the defense came on a strip sack from Anthony Cook on a beautifully called nickel blitz. Cook had another outstanding game and might be the best player in the Texas secondary right now. The defensive line was asked to contain Duggan for much of the game and try to shut down the running game with Zach Evans. Duggan's longest run of the day was 10 yards. Evans had a good game (15 carries for 113 yards) and probably should have received more touches. The one aspect the Texas defense is lacking right now is consistent pass rush from their edge players. It is not likely something that is going to change over the course of the season, so the coaching staff is going to have to make do and lean on their interior defensive line to try to get to the quarterback. Outside of Bijan Robinson, the MVP for the game should go to Cameron Dicker. The senior was 4/4 on field goals and also averaged 46.5 yards on his two punts. Dicker had been inconsistent to start the year, but Texas needed him to come through today and he delivered.

  2. I know i may be a sunshine pumper, but im also a realist that knows it takes a little time to rebuild a program. I know we said this under Strong and under Herman, but this feels a little different. Nick Saban went 7-6 in year 1 at Bama, Dabo Swinney went 9-5 and then 6-6 in his 1st 2 years. Once they got their players those programs took off. Does it suck to take losses as a fan? hell yes. I do wish this team wouldve magically been a CC team this year, but this is basically the same team that got a coach fired last year. It definitely is a team missing their 4 year QB leader who willed some wins last year. Say all you want about the last 10 years, but this just feels different to me. I think this staff knows what they need and I do believe they will get there. It just may not be on the timeline we we're all unrealistically hoping for. This is a process and I'm staying the course as a fan. I really do think it will be worth the wait

  3. I didnt get to watch the game live but taped it and watched it later. Bijan is an absolute gamer. The kid has to be tired and sore as hell. I would take 1 Bijan over 100 Zach Evans anyday. Besides being a gifted runner he is very humble and great personality and smile. We are lucky to have him. He is quickly becoming one of my favorite longhorns of all time. I wasnt sold on Sark in the beginning but I appear to be wrong. Hes cool and calm and looks to be the right person for the job. I enjoy watching his conferences. Atleast he isn't that 8 year old Herman. Wasnt a pretty win and turnovers made the difference. I was a little disappointed in the passing game and Worthy but shrug it off and get ready for the spooners. A win is a win especially against that head case Patterson and TCU. To top it off sheep shaggers lost so I am basking in the glow today.

  8. I am 100% behind the horns despite this loss. Forget about it and March forward. SARK can lead us to victory in the remainder of our schedule starting this week. Then, we give OU the ultimate beatback in the Conference Championship game in December. HORNS, stay focused! Remember why you wear the burnt Orange. I am 100% behind SARK and the team. Let's keep lazered focus on our goal, which is to bring Texas back and stay there. HOOK 'EM JRT

  9. View from the Cheap Seats-Horny Toads (or as DKR said. . . Cockroaches) BEAST MODE Thank the good lord for BiJan Robinson. TEXAS/Sark put the game on his back and he delivered with a career day as TEXAS narrowly escapes Ft Worth with a much needed win. TCU is 2nd only to OU as TEXAS’ biggest bugaboo in the BigXII, the frogs enjoying a 7-2 record over the Horns over the last decade. This was not the same TEXAS team we saw vs a couple of tomato cans. In some ways, this was exactly the game TEXAS needed heading into the Red River War. Classic trap game, on the road with the biggest game of the season the following week against an opponent that can lose every other game of the season but if they beat us, their season a success. And TEXAS (outside of BiJan) played almost as poorly as they did vs the Pigs. Dropped passes, poor execution and penalties not to mention our worst red zone performance of the year turned what should have been a blown out into a nail biter. Having said that and given the struggles we have had against the Frogs, we’ll take the win, ugly as it was. Thank you Stan Drayton for your work recruiting BiJan. Young man was absolutely amazing producing in his heaviest workload day of his career. 35 carries for 216 yards and 2 TDs to go with 2 receptions. BEAST MODE He is leading the nation in forcing missed tackles too. He is simply an amazing back and we suspect by the end of the year, the debate becomes is he or Jammal Charles our #3 RB of all time. With apologies to former players like Ernie Koy and Chris Gilbert. Hopefully this is a game where Sark can grow as a coach. We have been spoiled for 2 weeks seeing a gameplan where all the weapons are used, we’re used to seeing not only a high octane offense but a creative one as well. This we did not see vs the Frogs. We saw what might have been the most vanilla game plan of the year this side of Fayetteville. Not sure we ever saw Casey asked to roll out to stress their front and their front is very good. We saw one pass route utilizing our TEs and little use of mis direction. Though the jet sweep to K Robinson was excellent. So good we never ran it again. Maybe we’re saving something for OU but against 2 good defenses this year, we have not seen the best Sark has to offer. Speaking of people who will grow from this, we have no doubt some of the naysayers are calling for Casey Thompson’s head. That would be a very bad move. Casey had easily his worst day but he lead TEXAS to a tough win on the road. Granted, helps when you line up with BiJan beside you. He also had at least 4 drops and 2 (maybe more) of those on 3rd down which would have kept drives alive. TEXAS enjoyed 6 trips to the red zone. The good news, 5-6 scoring. The bad news 4 scores were FGs, one trip saw us stuffed on 4th and 1, which would lead to a TCU 99 yard drive and a TD. Had no problem with Sark going for it on 4th down to go from a 12 to a 19 point (2 scores vs 3) lead. But with TCU stacked to stop BiJan, we slammed him into the line twice. Later in the day Bama would go for it on 4th and 1 from the 1. They faked a run left, rolled their QB right behind play action and completed an easy TD to their pass catcher. Getting stuffed at the 1 with a 32-20 lead should not have been the worst thing in the world. Except TEXAS’ D would give up all 99 yards to see TCU pull within 5 points. Oddly, TCU took their sweet time on the drive and ate up a bunch of the clock. TCU then kicked deep counting on their D to stop TEXAS. Not today Gary, Sark put the ball in BiJan’s hands 6 straight times gaining 33 of his 216 yards none more important than his last carry gaining 6 on a 3rd and 6 to allow TEXAS to go into victory formation for the final 3 plays. While it may not sound like it, a win on the road is a win and TCU has been a major thorn in Bevo’s side. We had multiple chances to put a fork in the Frogs. We left points on the field settling for FGs. This team should never have to lean on one RB for 35 carries, even as good as BR is. Having said that, this team needed to face adversity and this they did today. Casey threw what at first looked like an ugly INT into triple coverage. Upon further review, Worthy was held (rather obviously) or he’s most likely running open. Refs missed that call, it was a game of some questionable calls but Casey bounced back from his 2nd INT of the season to play well, though certainly not great. Our pass catchers struggled at time catching the ball and as stated above, it was a pretty vanilla game plan. We lost Okafor to injury, adjusted the OL on the fly and again, we won. Might have been ugly but we won. This was the type of game TEXAS would have lost over the past 8-10 years. Offensive Player of the Game BiJan Robinson. Easiest pick of the year. All he did was carry the team. Herculean performance 35 Carries 216 yards and 2 TDs. Add 2 receptions for another 22 yards. Could not find his yards after contact but at least half would be our guess today. Defensive Player of the Game Anthony Cook His sack force fumble of Max Duggin would lead to a field goal and TEXAS 1st 2 score lead of the day. Stats that Matter 5 of 6 6 Trips into the TCU red zone, 4 field goals and only 1 TD, not good 6-15 TEXAS on 3rd down, 1-5 in the 1st half 9 Penalties on TEXAS for 97 yards. Shades of Mensa 3 Turnovers gained by TEXAS but only turned into 9 points 6.2 BiJan's average yards per carry On Deck Simply the biggest game of the year, the Red River War, against the most talented team TEXAS will face. And we’ll say it now, we think this is game one of two vs OU this year. We think the team will grow thanks to the adversity it faced vs TCU. Make no mistake, OU will look to expose our secondary. We’ll need red zone TDs not FGs to win and we’ll need to tackle well and limit yards after the catch. Our too early key to victory. . . .execution. TEXAS brings it’s A game, it will leave on top of the conference. ALL GAS NO BRAKES Fighting Mack Brown’s UNC really needed a slump buster and they found one in Duke. Tarheel’s high hopes for the season have largely been dashed but Mack continues to recruit well and add talent. They will go bowling and Mack has clearly improved UNC’s performance. Ranking the BigXII #1 OU. . . . they played their best game of the year so far vs KSU. They remain on the Top tier of the BigXII but they lack the invincibility they have enjoyed in the past. The next 3 teams are the 2nd Tier of the BigXII today, you can largely rank them in any order. #2 OSU Battle of the ranked teams, Cowboys come out on top #3 TEXAS You can make the case for #2 but with the Red River War on the horizon and #2 the winner of a pair of ranked teams, #3 fits for now #4 ISU Throttled hapless Kansas The mid tier of the BigXII, these are teams good enough to upset anyone. #5 Baylor Dave Aranda is another very good hire for Baylor #6 KSU Skyler Thompson is back which gives KSU a chance vs the rest of the BigXII #7 Texas Tech Nice win on the road vs WVU #8 TCU #9 WVU Coulda/shoulda/Woulda And now alone at the bottom #10 Kansas Maybe not so early Playoff projections. #1 Bama They make it look easy #2 Georgia Looking forward to the SEC title game but we think at this point, both get in. #3 B1G champ Even with 1 loss. Top 3 teams play each other then likely face Iowa for the title. #4 Oklahoma sucks to type, though we think they will have to beat TEXAS twice to get there. Wild cards Cincinnati beat previously unbeaten ND, could this be the year for Group of 5? Oregon is most likely done. Same for ND This was “separation weekend” as the race just got a good deal clearer on the 1st weekend in Oct. And a final note, the Pirate headed into Kyle Field and downs the Aggies yet again. Couldn’t happen to a better bunch. Nor will it be ACES last loss of the season. Wonder if the Aggies are still talking playoffs.

  10. I thought Whittington's catch in the third quarter is probably the best I've seen him make. Acrobatic and stayed with it. Props to J-Whit. I didn't notice, did Josh Moore make a catch today? Overshown did a much better job tackling today I thought Anthony Cook had a great game. The sack, then getting up and recovering the fumble was outstanding. Karic should be starting over Jones. Jones is going to get someone killed. Sark got K-Rob some touches late and I'm glad of that. But that should have started in the 1st quarter, not the 4th. Thats got to change. He's a weapon.

  11. This was a quality win. TCU is a good team with dangerous weapons. We knocked one of them out of the game early. Zach Evans is a quality back and hurt us several times. Bijan carried this team late. And if you have to have someone do that, you want it to be a RB. That means your OL is winning at the LOS. I think Bijan won the battle of the RBs today. In hindsight, I think two of the FGs should have been touchdowns. But this was a road game in a hostile environment against a coaching staff that spends half their lives game planning Texas. I'll take the win. We won on the road in a big conference game. It was a big game because in the past, we would have lost this one. Instead, we toughed it out and finished. If we can frustrate Spencer Rattler early next week, we will beat OU. They'll stop Bijan early, but he'll get his yards as the game wears on.

  12. Good win. Some people on this board seem to think we're a powerhouse program and should be mud stomping every one we see. Guess what. We ain't. This was a game that we lose with our last 3 coaches. Our offense is fine. The defense usually takes longer to get right so hopefully by the end of the year it will be where it needs to be. On to blow u. They seem more beatable than last year. I think the blow u game goes a lot to determining what this team makeup is. Pouring myself some Johnnie Walker and enjoying my horns winning and the rest of the evening.

  16. What am I missing?....the wolves seem to be out after Casey, who has shown to a baller when healthy. HE HAS A HURT THUMB!!!! None of you arm chair QB's can grip your golf club with a bum thumb, why be down on Casey trying to grip a football? If it gets better he will be fine. If not then we have a week and a half to get Card ready. We have been crapping on the whole team for being crap in the 4th qtr.....but I think to some degree the last 2 games we have gone as Casey's thumb has gone. It starts ok....bandage good, painkillers holding......but as the game goes on and the thumb is taking a beating, it all goes to hell. Should Sark bring in Casey sooner? I am not privy to what is being discussed and why, but with as much at stake as Sark has here I doubt he is simply forgetting Card is sitting on the bench. strange game, football....

  17. I know he is a good player, but I'm glad Texas is standing their ground. I'm predicting the rest of the class right now: Devon Campbell OL Mallik Agbo OL Earnest Greene OL Evan Stewart WR Harold Perkins LB And two of: Jacoby Mathews Denver Harris Larry Turner-Gooden Because I've typed this out, it will come true. I don't care what everyone says here. I have spoken and so it will be done. Okay, that is my wish. At least get Campbell, Agbo, Stewart and Turner-Gooden. I really do think Texas is sitting in a good spot with these 4 right now.

  18. That is exactly my interpretation. It would bet he really connected with Sark and the staff and likes the direction of the program, despite the loss. I wish our fans could see it like that.

  19. Spoke to one of my friends tonight. It was a short conversation but I got right to the point . . . what kind of damage did we do by crapping the bed today? Friend zeroed in on Evan Stewart . . "in a way, it couldn't have gone better. He had already connected with Sark the evening before, I mean really connected. They spoke one-on-one for over an hour, even though there were lots of people around them also talking. They were just speaking to each other for a while with no interruption. I know that after the game it appeared Stewart saw how he could have helped win this game. It was not the negative effect (the loss) that it normally would have been. We'll see where it goes but I don't feel there was any damage at all with the Stewart recruitment." "The rest, hard to say. I was paying close attention to Stewart most of the time."

  21. I didnt get to see the game (mother's funeral and finishing up in SA before i leave), but it sounds like it played out the way we ALL knew it would. A lot of us hoped against hope, but this set of guys just dont have the mental makeup yet. These are Herman traits left over. I dont think this game changes the recruiting fire at the moment. Im sure Campbell probably saw that he could start day 1 and Im betting Stewart saw what Worthy did. Texas needs 2 - 3 more solid OL (22 kids or portal), a shutdown corner and high speed LB. Kids see that. They know this team is right there and one game does not change that. Now the real test comes, can they bounce back and take care of OSU and go into Ames and beat ISU. They do that and they will see this team again in December.

    The Lizards Will Die

I'm going to share a story with you... I used to run a lot. Every time I did, especially during the summers, in the hot sun, the lizards would dart out from the crevices and they would run parallel with me and the sidewalk. I avoided them every outing, many times, having to shuffle my running steps so that I didn't ultimately step on them. They would ultimately scatter back into the dirt off the sidewalk and disappear. If you are a runner you can totally identify what I am referencing. Then one day, on a long run, I ended up stepping on one that wouldn't get out of my way. I didn't feel bad because I was sick and tired of the lizards forcing me to deviate from my path. After all, I always changed my path based on their direction. I thought about this in relation to the Texas - TCU game. Every now and then, you have to crush a little piece of shit that you've been nice to. I fully expect the Longhorns to beat some ass tomorrow. And oh Gary Patterson... you have self-esteem issues..... Get your shit together. Sincerely, Every.DAMN.Texas Fan

  28. I watched Aggie beat BAMA by whipping them at the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. In my wildest imagination I cannot fathom Texas doing that on their best day. Right now, if we podded up with Aggie OU and Arkansas... Texas is last place and there is a huge gap separating them from the next. I’m not all doom and gloom.... I’m just saying that Sark had better hit the recruiting trail and then develop all things OL and defense or this SEC experiment is going to be an absolute nightmare.

  29. I think we have a good team. We fell apart in the 4th until towards the end there. We were game planned for a different QB. This journey back to the top won't be a quick one. Gotta be patient. We're making strides. We've got a good team. We'll see this bunch again.

  34. People are second guessing going for it on the 1 yard line instead of kicking the field goal. I mean after it doesn’t work everyone says damn that was a bad decision we should have kicked the field goal. Sark is going to go for almost all of those because 1) It sends a message to your offensive line of toughness. Knock them off the ball. Our OLine is still trying to gain confidence. 2) It breaks the will of the defense to get pushed back. 3) You’ve got the best running back in the country so high percentage he’s going to get in. He’s trying to form this team like Saban has Alabama. I get it that we’re a long ways from Alabama but it’s about setting the culture of your program. Ok it didn’t work and now everyone is saying that they would have kicked. For me it would have been nice to not let them drive 99 yards in a couple of minutes. It’d been nice to make them use some clock because they were going slow. We needed a stop and the game is over there. Glad we had Bijan to get a couple of first down on tough running to end the game. In the past 11 years I believe we would have found ways to lose that game. We got a ways to go but we found a way to win it. Ugly are not doesn’t matter. We got a W. That’s all that matters to me. 36. I’m happy with how it played. For the first time in a decade or more, we played a “B- or C+” game and won. Because a couple of players wouldn’t let them lose. We would have lost this game last year. We didn’t play our best game but we maintained control.

  43. According to Mike Roach, Sark and staff have really put their foot on the gas with the Evans recruitment and its paying off. The thinking is if Texas beats OU, we may have ourselves a commitment soon after. A thought about the Skinner recruitment . . . Why has there been CB action by some for this kid to Bama? Bama already has two TEs committed in the class. I know its Saban, but geez do you spend three spots on TEs? Things are really heating up behind the scenes with Evans. I know I've said I didn't care if he came here but hey, if he does, there's a shot of having that dream line up I posted about yesterday.
