Possible Location of New Arena

Recommended Posts

You get students and non-students to attend games if you win.  More importantly, they will especially attend if the program wins on a consistent basis.

Winning solves everything - football, basketball, baseball, women's softball, women's basketball and women's volleyball.

A lot of truth right here summed up in 3 simple, to the point, sentences.

We've been winning.  Since 1988, and we're still having this conversation.  UT is just not a basketball school and students don't give a crap about basketball unless things have changed since I was there in the 80s.  Also, having every game broadcast on LHN or other networks even more disincentivises people from going.  Add to that that Austin, being a great city, offers better things to do than sitting in an arena watching basketball.

With all due respect, I disagree.  We've won nothing in basketball.  Oh, we've been to tournaments - but so?  How many national titles do we have?  the product is important as well.  Remember Phi Slamma Jamma at UH?  Always sold out - even when traveling.

When we were in the SWC and even battling for conference titles, we were always sold out at Gregory.  What if we were always national contenders and winning one every now and then.  Think this would spark more interest?  Why does Duke, Kentucky, Kansas and GONZAGA (for Gods sake) always sell out?  Three of those schools are football schools.

How about our national championship baseball teams - always sold out. How about women's basketball and volleyball teams - always sold out.  When they were in the title hunt, the fans came.

I went even further in my claim - CONSISTENT winning begets consistent fan support.

Check DKR.  We ain't winning as much and the fan support is waning.  And this is football.
