• Texas leads, 137-59. Last meeting: Texas 66-44 (Dec. 30, 2013; Austin).

• Monday's contest marks the 197th meeting between Texas and Rice.
 

• The Horns own a 137-59 advantage in the all-time series, which dates back to a 28-14 UT victory on Feb. 3, 1915 in Austin.
 

• Rice is UT's third-most common opponent in program history (behind Baylor and Texas A&M).
 

• Texas has won nine consecutive games against the Owls. The Horns have won 16 of the last 17 and 31 of the last 36 meetings in the series.

• HOLMES NEARS 1,000 POINTS: Senior forward Jonathan Holmes enters Monday's game just 13 points shy of reaching the 1,000-point mark in his career. He will become the 34th player in UT history to reach the milestone.

 

• SUCCESS AGAINST RICE: Texas has won nine consecutive games against the Owls. The Horns have won 16 of the last 17 and 31 of the last 36 meetings in the series. UT is a perfect 8-0 against Rice during the Rick Barnes era.

 

• FELIX FINDING THE RANGE: Junior guard Javan Felix has averaged 18.0 points while hitting 13-of-25 (.520) field goals, including 5-of-13 (.385) from three-point range, in 32.0 minutes per game over the last two contests.

 

 

LONE STAR STATE SUCCESS:

  • Since Rick Barnes arrived in Austin prior to the 1998-99 season, the Longhorns have emerged as the dominant college basketball program in the state of Texas.

  • The Horns have posted a 142-21 (.871) record against in-state foes during the Barnes era entering Monday's game, including marks of 29-8 against Baylor, 30-4 against Texas Tech, 23-7 against Texas A&M and 6-0 against TCU.

This game was ugly

With 5m to 3m left, it was anyone's to win

Our offense is the SOS as always -- the weave beyond the arc, no attempt to get the ball to the bigs, no set plays for Turner, lots of bad passing, Felix tossing up 3s from very deep and Felix shooting too much in general.

The unranked Owls, who just lost to Lamar, could have beaten us at home with a little better shooting down the stretch (they had enough open shots)
