Hmmmmm,  former HC Frank Broyles, former players Jerry Jones and Jimmie Johnson...but no (our friend) Barney Switzer (pun intended) from that same arky team?  OK , so Bielema is cashing in all the old red chips.... building on past hatred toward UT and Texas to fire up his team.

From a longtime TEXAS fan that remembers this long and bitter rivalry, I can tell you the hawgs HC, the fans and the old arky players are going to build a fire under this hog team to come in fired up and lay the wood to UT.

The Horns better be ready.  UT may somehow win the game but arky will come in with an attitude and they will play hard.

That 1964 Arkansas NC team had a lot of significant players and coaches on it.

Among the players: Jerry Jones (yes, that one), Jimmy Johnson (yes, that one) and Ken Hatfield

Among the assistant coaches: Barry Switzer and Johnny Majors (Majors later coached the 1976 Tony

Dorsett led NC team)

Interestingly, in the 1964 Texas/Arkansas game in Austin, Hatfield returned a punt 81 yards in the

2nd quarter to give Arky the lead over #1 ranked Texas. Texas scored with 1:27 left in the 4th quarter

to cut Arky's lead to 14-13. DKR opted to go for 2 and the win; the 2 point attempt failed and Arky

won. To close that 1964 regular season, Arky shut out their LAST FIVE opponents. Not to overly

praise a hated rival, but that was SOME DEFENSE Arky had. Five straight shutouts in college

football? DAMN!  Of more interest: Texas actually helped Arky win their only NC in 1964 by beating

#1 ranked Alabama and QB Joe Namath in the Orange Bowl 21-17, vaulting a lower ranked Arky team

to an undisputed NC, their only one. So we lose to them in Austin (could have kicked extra point and

tied but I admire DKR going for the win) and then we beat #1 in the Orange Bowl...if not for that, Bama

would have won the NC. Isn't it interesting that in two critical Texas/Arkansas games (1964 and 1969)

DKR had the guts to go for 2, both times in the 4th quarter, Texas failed the first time (1964) and

succeeded the second time (1969) and those go for 2's played such a big part in who the eventual

NC winner would be?

So...Bielema's "Horns Down" gesture directly disrespected Charlie Strong and the Longhorns. Did it while

shaking Charlie's hand!!  Like slapping him in the face.  Thanks for the added incentive, Bielema...let's see

how that works out for you on Monday night.  Really, thanks...let's get the shit going!
