South Oak Cliff’s playoff run came to a disappointing end Friday night in a 31-14 loss to Ennis in the Regional Finals. The Golden Bears team features a squad loaded with division one prospects including two Texas Longhorn commitments, running back Jordan Stevenson and defensive back Jamile Johnson. We were able to catch up with Johnson after the emotional loss and he was kind enough to answer some questions.

“The season was just phenomenal, we made history and gave it everything we got” Johnson said referencing the fact that South Oak Cliff had not advanced this deep into the playoffs since 1978. While Johnson was proud of his team he was able to be critical of their performance tonight. “This loss just came back to all the bad things we did, all the downfalls. It just came back to discipline at the end of the day”. Johnson recorded an interception late in the game in what would be his last play at the high school level and mentioned that it would be memorable.

With the deep playoff run South Oak Cliff has had, Johnson's plans to visit Austin were inevitably delayed. The South Oak Cliff duo of Johnson and Stevenson, have scheduled their visit to the 40 Acres for January. Johnson is excited to get to Austin and be part of the Charlie Strong defense. “I love the excitement and intensity that they have. That’s a defensive team, the offense might struggle a little bit but defense is the backbone of Texas”.

Johnson was a one time Oklahoma commitment who then switched to North Carolina before pledging his commitment to the Longhorns. His lead recruiter is tight ends coach Bruce Chambers, and Johnson says he has no doubts about his decision. “I’m 100% firm, it’s a re-building process. The 2015 class is on our way to make something happen”. Johnson has the ability to play either corner or safety, and his physical style will match the intensity that Charlie Strong demands from his players.

Daddy was a Longhorn and Cowboy fan.  He liked Don Meredith, but he loved Staubach.  In one of Dandy Don's games, Daddy claimed that he was hearing footsteps behind him that weren't there.  I saw that multiple times in our games this year, particularly with receivers of opposing teams.  They didn't want to catch the ball because they knew they were going to get clobbered.  It was easier to whiff on the ball.

Defense wins championships!

Hook 'em, Charlie!

But for the accident of genes - I could have been your daddy.

I left the Cowboys when that Arkansas carpet bagger bought them.

What Jerry Jones did to Tom Landry earned him a special place in Hell IMO.

This always cracks me up. . . .

Jerry Jones salvaged Landry's reputation .. . Schramm (and any one with a lick of football sense) had been trying to move Landry out for 3 years.

Jerry flew to Austin to tell Tom to his face and wrote him a check for $1,000,000 he didn't owe him. . . .Landry showed his true colors (and they damn sure weren't pious christian either) sulked and pouted and acted like some sad victim. . ..

Thanks to JJ .. . .no one remembers Landry's LONG list of failures. . .or how he had run the Cowboys into the ground .. . . if someone had covered my backside like that . . . .I certainly would not have acted like a petulant child. . . ..

Suddenly somehow Jerry was the bad guy. . .btw, Bum Bright offered to take the heat for Jerry and fire Tom before he signed over the team. . ..say what you want about JJ. . . he wasn't going to duck the heat. . .Personally I respect men who stand up and don't duck the heat .. . .

Sorry, that is the biggest faux ire. . . . .but a great example of how the press and the public can create any revisionist narrative they wish .. . . . .no matter how nonsensical it is. . .. .

Unless you are going to argue JJ should have kept Tom. . .

Bedford loves guys that can line up anywhere in the backfield. With the coaching JJ will get, he projects really well.

Back from revisionist history 101 . .. .

Is he that flexible position wise?

Damn, we need a few DBs like that. . ..and are he and Steveson tied at the hip?   I wonder if we keep the RB if we land Warren, getting a bit crowded and he's flirted elsewhere. . .

I'm not sure what the first sentence means.

Johnson's skills are weighted to the contact end of the scale over coverage. I don't think he's strong enough to play man-to-man at CB, but he's suited for lining up at nickel (where he's protected over the top), at either safety spot, or even as a hybrid LB-type (he'll be closer to 215 in 18 months than 195) - I'd say there's a lot of flexibility there.
