After laying relatively low in terms of production since 2011, John Harris has done what head coach Charlie Strong has asked him to do: step up his level of play.  When Kendall Sanders and Montrel Meaner were suspended/dismissed by Strong, there was concern about the depth in the WR corps...  Frankly, other than Jaxon Shipley, who was recovering from an injury, there weren't many wide receivers on the Texas squad that had playing experience in games.

Harris was targeted by the staff, more like challenged, and he's delivered so far.  He's putting together a nice 2014 season, leading all WR's in receiving yards and TD's.  Harris has 6 TD's on the season and 460 receiving yards after 6 games of play and is averaging 14.8 ypc.  The closest receiver to him in terms of yardage is Jaxon Shipley with 360 yds. and no TD's.  Tight End MJ McFarland is the only other receiver to have caught a TD pass other than John Harris this season (McFarland has 2 receiving TD's).

Harris' career statistics:

Year                                Receptions                                   Yards                                     Average                                       Touchdowns

2014                                31                                                  460                                         14.8                                               6

2013                                5                                                    141                                         28.2                                               2

2012                               2                                                     36                                          18.0                                               1

2011                               2                                                     13                                            6.5                                               0

Swoopes and the offense will lean on Harris for the remainder of the season.  As Charlie Strong says "it's a one-game season" meaning the team takes it one game at a time, week-by-week.  Harris has scored a TD in every game this season except the Baylor game, and look for the trend to continue.  As Tyrone Swoopes has become more comfortable passing, his down-field throws have increased.  Look for John Harris to be the recipient of most of those throws.

Look closely at that bolded numbers and tell me what the problem is. . .

;)

Well done piece, Harris is continuing with a long line of Seniors who DRAMATICALLY have stepped up their games.

He and Ship will be sorely missed next year.
