Moderator joeywa Posted September 18, 2014 Moderator Report Share Posted September 18, 2014 It has been brought to my attention that we have had a recent major influx of new members hailing from lands far away now perusing HS. While I have looked through our Newest Members list, I have not found any new HS members that list locations in the Middle East, Europe or Asia, as of yet. I'd like to welcome all of our newest overseas members, and look forward to hearing from you. So hop on in this thread and tell us a bit about where you're from, where you're based, and what took you to where you currently reside. Feel free to mix in how you feel about UT sports, the food offerings where you live, and what you miss most about Texas. And to steal a bit of schtick from one our members, Matt Cotcher, streettopeschel, Lukus Alderman and 4 others

monarch
joeywa here, here, now this is what i have been talking about regarding this great HORN SPORTS forum / website. we have some very energetic and simply wonderful stalwarts. not to mention, some great ambassadors.... such as aforementioned joeywa. now, i just wanted to hereby relay to our great ambassasdor joeywa, that he is not exactly "stealing" a certain member's "schtick" in regards to the KEEP CALM campaign. i have hereby taken the liberty to include a small bit of history / origins, regarding this particular KEEP CALM event. you see, this particular campaign derived as per the british government during the second world war. therefore, the wonderful KEEP CALM campaign, has a bit of magnificent history behind it. upon one of my 2002 visits to london, my great pals introduced this superb campaign to my attention. of course, it was hereby utilized during my contractual work while i was in the confines of afghanistan. we simply loved it! this campaign was always quite motivational, and i thank my london pals as per presenting it to my attention. additionally, i am not aware as per any new MEMBERS FROM ABROAD to HORN SPORTS upon the last 48hrs or so. however, i am certainly aware that quite a few of my pals abroad are now watching, visiting, and yes commenting gleefully regarding this site. (i can assure you of this). i knew that my pals in london, scotland, and south africa would enjoy the grand humor immensely. however, i had no idea, that my pals residing in dubai, uae, abu dhabi uae, as well as sharjah, uae, would enjoy it so very much, since they are usually a bit more conservative. however, the emails are unbelievable! nonetheless, i just want to extend a gracious and hearty THANK YOU to ambassador joeywa, as per taking it upon himself to be so very welcoming and gracious. please sir, as they say in london, england Keep Calm and Carry On was a motivational poster produced by the British government in 1939 in preparation for the Second World War. The poster was intended to raise the morale of the British public, threatened with widely predicted mass air attacks on major cities.[1][2] Although 2.45 million copies were printed, and although the Blitz happened, the poster was never publicly displayed and was little known about until a copy was rediscovered in 2000. It has since been re-issued by a number of private companies, and has been used as the decorative theme for a range of products.[3] It was thought that only two original copies survived until a collection of 20 was brought in to the Antiques Roadshow in 2012 by the daughter of an ex-Royal Observer Corps member.[4] The Keep Calm and Carry On poster was designed by the Ministry of Information during the period 27 June – 6 July 1939.[5] It was produced as part of a series of three "Home Publicity" posters (the others read "Your Courage, Your Cheerfulness, Your Resolution Will Bring Us Victory" and "Freedom Is in Peril. Defend It With All Your Might"). Each poster showed the slogan under a representation of a "Tudor Crown" (a symbol of the state). They were intended to be distributed to strengthen morale in the event of a wartime disaster, such as mass bombing of major cities using high explosives and poison gas, which was widely expected within hours of an outbreak of war.[2] As the popularity of the poster in various media has grown, innumerable parodies, imitations and co-optations have also appeared, making it a notable meme. Messages range from the cute to the overtly political, typically with references to other aspects of popular culture ranging from the royal wedding of Kate Middleton and Prince William to the Mario videogames. Examples have included "Now Panic and Freak Out" (with an upside-down crown), "Get Excited and Make Things" (with a crown incorporating spanners), "Keep Calm and Have a Cupcake" (with a cupcake icon), "Don't Panic and Fake a British Accent", "Keep Calm and Hate Apple" (with the Windows logo), "Keep Calm and Hate Microsoft" (with the Apple logo), "Keep Calm and Switch to Linux" (with Tux)[22] and "Keep Spending and Carry On Shopping".[23] In March–April 2012 the British pop-rock band McFly undertook a theatre tour entitled "The Keep Calm and Play Louder Tour", promoted with a poster closely based on that of 1939. In late 2012 and early 2013, the "Save Lewisham Hospital" campaign (a protest against proposed cuts in services at University Hospital Lewisham) made widespread use of a poster with the slogan "Don't Keep Calm Get Angry and Save Lewisham A&E".[24][25] Shepherd Neame Brewery put the slogan "Keep Calm and Celebrate" on the bottles of their "Spitfire" ale, which was designed to commemorate the Battle of Britain. Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi's efforts to encourage and motivate his citizens in the wake of the 2013 Alberta floods have made his name the subject of parody "Keep Calm and Nenshi On" fundraising T-shirts.[26]

Lukus Alderman
I currently hail from the vast expansion labelled "Tennessee". The natives in this mountainous range of land are known to be hostile to outsiders, marry within bloodlines, and eat delicacies such as Fried Bologna, Fried "Taters", and soup beans. Brisket is an unknown commodity here, but I am doing my best to introduce the local savages to fine Texas BBQ. joeywa

Planohorn
recently? Well this is what I got in a private msg after the other thread got locked... My original post: It's "many of my great pals from far away places" or maybe "in far away places". As per usual, your constant misunderstanding of how and where to use "upon" overshadows the points you are trying to convey and makes your posts unreadable. I hereby request that you start posting in English. PM response from Monarch: please hurry and get your countryfied plano ass on over to your local SERVICE KING COLLISION REPAIR CENTER! you have just collided with the wrong HS member. it now seems as though, you are hereby experiencing a brain leak. additionally, before you take the initiative to start handing out ENGLISH LESSONS... please get your country ass out of plano, tx. you just may inspire some form of credibility....
