Texas Just Landed QB Zach Gentry

Recommended Posts

Looks like he's playing against a bunch of Hobbits. You do have to question the level of competition, but he looks like a tremendous prospect. Surprised how much read option he ran. Runs well for 6'6".

Where is the Texas class "ranked" at this point, after his commitment?

My daughter and I left Albuquerque in 1998. I grew up in Texas, went to UT, but moved to NM after her dad and I got married. She had been to UT games before we moved, but she had never been to a Texas high school football game; however, she had the distinct honor of hearing me complain about the travesty of 500 people showing up to support their team for the large team playoff games in Albuquerque, in gorgeous weather-500 people!

She always loved football, and would be upset about the refs not calling offsides or holding-by the time she was 10. When we got to Texas, she knew she was in football heaven. High school games with packed bleachers for regular season games, caravans for the playoffs, and the inevitable trip to Austin for the Texas game after her high school game was over. She even planned her SAT test around the schedule.

Welcome to the 40, Zach, Hook 'em!

Sejjr, the level of competition does not change his measureables, nor does it change Strong's ability to evaluate talent and desire. I'll take Strong's record any day of the week. We all have a little post-Mack ptsd, imo.

I have no issues with him, and his tools are off the charts. He looks like a great prospect, despite his competition. I believe in Strong's record as well. In fact, I couldn't be more encouraged after the NFL draft to see what a real developer and identifier of talent can do at Texas. This is a great start.

Couple of thoughts

1-He's not a pro style QB. After watching his HUDL film, he's a dual threat.

2-Reading the over 130 page thread on Volnation was pretty hysterical. They went through all five stages of grief yesterday.

3-Strong's strict rules might scare some players off, but the parents sure like them. From what I've seen/read his parents love Strong's strictness.
