aowells
Since you curl, does that ever so slight rotation they put on the rock make the path bend or is it the brooms? The rotation on the stone does makes the path bend (curl). By sweeping you make the ice surface slipperier which has the dual effect of making the stone curl less and making it go further. So really it's the rotation that curls it, and the sweeping helps control it. The sweeping can hugely change the trajectory and distance travelled. Normally a stone should rotate about 2-3 times while travelling the length of the ice. More than that and it will go fairly straight (it'll just spin and not really grip the ice), less than that and it may dig in or lose rotation before it stops.
