Highlights of Jeff Howe (24/7) speaking at the Dallas Lunch Bunch

Thought I'd share. . .going from memory. .

Jeff thinks we land Nelson and Ford . .. likes our chances with the Colo commit we had visit today. ..

His comments about the coaching changes were interesting. . .

Seems we've added some serious recruiters . .Chris Vaughen better than many realize. . the trade of Rumph for Davis/Giles was a good one. . seems Giles has burned some bridges in Houston. .

On offense. . .Wyatt and Strong just didn't mix. . .he was the old staff's best evaluator of talent but Les knows Texas well and isn't looking for another gig.. he is also a very good teacher of WRs. . .Wickline for Searles was an upgrade . ..RB coach isn't the recruiter of Potter but no slouch and a better RB coach. . .Shaun Watson is a better QB coach and recruiter than many realize. . .over all thinks the staff is better. . certainly better than the critics realize. . .

Bruce moving to an admin role is still speculation . . .no word if Brewster is returning. . .

Strong isn't looking to win recruiting titles.. .he wants guys who fit his systems and will come to play hard and develop. ..one of the reason he's looking OOS so much. . he wants more raw talent to mold. . .

They are trying to find a transfer/JUCO QB so they can shirt Heard. . .they think he is going to be a star. . .btw. . .Heard really likes the new approach. For 2015. . if they cannot land the Stephenville kid. . the Zona kid (sorry. . forget the names) might be the top target. . .seems we didn't make Murray's top 5. .

Darius James has dropped some weight and looks good. All the suspended kids are in class. . .they have a short leash. ..

S&C is going to be improved. . it's no longer something you can "do the minimums" to get by. . .

Naashoun Hughes has huge upside. . .look for Antwuon Davis, Colbert, Leroy Scott and Josh Turner to play big roles in the spring in the secondary. .

As it sits today ..TEXAS is 4th in the BigXII with a brutal early schedule

No clue if J Gray gets back in time and might shirt . . .

And for the bombshell finish. . .per the people he talked with. ..had TEXAS waited for the title game. ..he thought there was a good chance Fisher would have come.. . . .

What I recall. .talked about baseball and basketball a bunch but I had to take a call. ..

Agree with gnash. A bird in the hand...

There's no reason Fisher or Sexton couldn't have agreed to a deal prior to the MNC. I'm happy with Strong and the direction he's taking the program. I don't see anybody out-working him and I trust he truly wants to be at UT.

"Wants more raw talent so he is looking out of state". Sounds like hedging in the event you can't recruit top talent at home. Every kid coming out of high school is raw. They only have 4 years, and you want the ones that take longer to develop????

Actually compared to Florida and other states in the deep south. ..Texas kids are frequently highly developed. ..our top HS (even our smaller ones) have impressive S&C programs. . .kids attend multiple off season camps. . work out at speed training facilities etc. ..

And actually they have 5 years and yes. . .TEXAS has enjoyed 4 and 5 star OLs throughout McWhorter's career yet failed to put a single McW recruit into the NFL draft . .vs Baylor or OSU. . .

That is very exciting. It would be nice to see us really get out in front of the arms race.

To second what echeese said about raw talent. We had a few coaches come through our office and I asked them how Texas kids compared to the rest of the south. He said that Florida has more raw athletes than anywhere and the southern states in general has more than the midwest, westcoast and so on. He said Texas athletes are not far behind florida kids but Texas has so many great programs and even the middle tier and small school programs are ran well. He said you will see really well ran programs here and there but Texas is filled with them. Its why you see the abundance of QBs coming from Texas. Texas kids come in more ready to play but some dont have the same upside you would think.
