I know I know, it doesnt live up to your standards, or the standards you think Texas "deserves."

Not going to argue, because just like yourself at the start of all of this roller coaster, I wanted John H. as a HC with Narduzzi as DC and possibly C. Morris as a OC...that would of been my dream staff. This falls way short of anything close to that, and oh well.

What I do know is this, we have football coaches now. Finally the change many of us have been yearning for, is finally here. I have always said, attitude and or change start at the top. Look at what was in that place 2 months ago, and where we are now. Deloss/Brown compared to Patterson/Strong. HUGE HUGE DIFFERENCE. Dodds and Brown did wonders for this school, and all of us are great full, but a change was needed, and unfortunately for some, that have never experienced it, it hits you like a Mike Tyson uppercut.

The staff is set. The players are starting their offseason workouts. These new coaches are gonna hit the ground running for recruits...want to whine and throw a hissy fit, that's totally your right to do so. But remember what coach strong said..

"Let's not get caught up in the five-stars. Let's not get caught up in

the four-stars. Let's get caught up in the football players,"

That quote to me also fits with the coaching staff..BK said it best, this isnt your red carpet celebrity assistant all star staff, but they are damn good coaches. Let them mesh, give them at least an offseason before we can even judge.

I dont know about you, but this is the first time in 5 years, im finally excited for the start of the season. Whether it works or not, that will be a story written months from now, in the meantime lets enjoy the change of atmosphere and intensity this team, these coaches, and this program will be having.

My chips are all in Coach Strong. Orangebleedin' Longhorn. #hookem2014

Its great that we have a new regime and will be patient but you can't tell me they maximized their resources and got he best availabile assistants. I know the talent factor is huge but man it looks like they settled in a lot of areas.

not gonna argue otherwise...could UT and Coach STrong done alot better??? heck yes, the point is that coach strong made these decisions, and I trust his ability to make them...

Im going to trust, hell who am I to doubt his ability to put together a staff. Proof is in the pudding.... But from the outside looking in the offensive staff I would grade as C- IMO. Nothing looks elite except O-line. I REALLY I'm wrong!

No celebrity assistant coaches, no prima donna coaches, no coaches looking to build their resume for the next job. I like it!! I like it a lot!! I'm glad the hiring's done and that now we get to watch Charlie Strong build his program!!

This is perfect I was thinking the same thing even about Strong when we hired him. Didn't want Saban, or any of the other big time schools coach. I wanted a hard nose coach from a smaller school that would be hungry and show the whole world he can do it at a Big Time Football school.

Here is my problem with that.

Why did Charlie come to Texas? He loved UL. So why come here? Lets start a list.

$$$ - texas pays more

recruiting pool - but i thought stars don't matter? if you only need 3 stars to win couldn't you get that at UL

can't win it all at UL - why not? stars don't matter

see my point?

An elite O-line will pretty much guarantee that the offense clicks. The game is truly won or lost up front.

That's a lot of coaching experience on offensive side of ball so it gives me optimism.

Yea, A&M had an elite O-Line the last 3 years and had pretty good offensive numbers, BUT the same cannot be said for their DEFENSE. Looks like Coach Strong stressed the importance of the front on BOTH offense and defense. Let's see how things go.

My only fear is that our brand of football will not be exciting to the kids compared to Baylor, A&M, Oregon. We are going to need to win and win early. If we do that then yeah I think he will be successful. But he has to win early. You aren't going to excite kids having a boring offense and no wins.

Where did they settle? Who was available, that wanted to come, that we didn't maximize our resources?

Wickline is one of the best OL coaches in college football. That doesn't mean he will be a good coordinator. Maybe he will, maybe he won't but Gundy passed over him a couple of times.

Akina was a good DB coach but bad coordinator.

Everyone on this board said we couldn't afford to take a coordinator and make him HC every time Morris name came up. How is this any different. We have no damn clue if Wickline can be a good coordinator. If he fails it will set the program back.

Strong has handed opposing schools a great negative recruiting narrative. They will tell kids why take a chance on Wickline as coordinator when you can play for us because we have proven we have done it, there is no guesswork.

Too many proven coordinators out there to take this risk. And it didn't have to be big time name OC, only that they have proven they can do it. I hate on the job training at that level.

And we know it's going to be boring, how? I keep hearing this and I look at what Les did the last 4 years at MS...set all-time passing and offense records, etc., Watson at UL consistently had their offenses in the top 30 or so nationally and OSU's offense needs no introduction of which Wickline had significant influence. I just don't get why many of you are so convinced these guys won't implement an up-tempo offense that still can run downhill when we have to. I guess we are all about to find out, huh?
