In light of the quarterbacks in this football game...

I'm not sure who all has been watching the game tonight but they made a point to mention that neither of the quarterbacks in the game were recruited by UT. I found myself thinking how embarrassed and how sick I was of hearing stuff like that all the time. We find ourselves thinking, "Well.. why didn't we recruit Johny Manziel, Drew Brees, RG III? We never give those type of guys a chance". At the time they weren't the sexiest recruits so we didn't think they were good enough for us but that doesn't mean they weren't outstanding football players, as we all know now. I find Coach Strong analogous with the Johnny Manziel's and Drew Brees' of the world. Although Charlie Strong may not have been the sexiest pick as head coach, that doesn't mean he won't be a coach wins national championships for us and maintains the type of program we all expect at UT. We have tremendous reason to be proud of our University but sometimes we can trip over our own arrogance and we brought in Steve Patterson to help change that.

Throughout the last several weeks during this coaching search, many of us were thinking (and I was guilty at times too) "We are the University of Texas, if we don't get Nick Saban, Jimbo, a Harbaugh...then anyone else would be a failure". That exact mindset is one of the main reasons we are in the situation we are currently in. As someone who has met SP many times, and based off of his resume, he is no fool. He know's exactly what he is doing, have trust in him. So he didn't give us what we all wanted, what we thought we were entitled too but instead the coach who he thought would change that culture of entitlement, do it the right way, and of course...win a bunch of football games. Change is difficult and we are seeing that now but we all need to suck it up and get behind this new era of Texas football. Like I said, SP is a master of his craft, we've got to get behind him and our new coach.

Here's to Coach Strong and new era of Texas Football!

Don't forget where Sugar Bowl champ Trevor Knight grew up and wanted to go to his entire life.

You can't REALLY blame Texas for having Garrett Gilbert over the other guys at the time he was recruited. Obviously he didn't give us what Manziel and Winston have given their teams, but he was one of the more dominating Texas high school quarterbacks in history.

I do believe, however, that Ash and McCoy are not even close to Texas standard, and how we had to settle with them is astounding.

I don't really believe in Strong that much, but if he can bring in a good instructor and give Swoopes or Heard more fair shots if David for some reason really tries to come back, maybe he can sew together some decent seasons and build something. Not holding my breath though...

I'm not saying because he got a concussion he's not good, I'm saying he's not standard because he's dramatically inconsistent and nobody on the team rallies around him. Pretty sad when your teammates prefer Case more just because he's not as socially inept and more like able. It's the truth

How is Ash not Texas standard? What specifically causes anyone to think the kid wasn't getting better? I don't blame him for getting a concussion.

Ash looked really good at times and if he hadn't gotten injured there's no telling how good he might have been. If he is the starter next year I am fine with that as long as he produces. I kinda wanna see more of Swoopes though. It looked like he had a hell of an arm in the bowl game when he went deep.

I haven't heard that his teammates said anything like that about him.

Ash got thrown into the fire before he was ready. People get ready at different rates, and Ash was an 18 year old kid starting at the University of Texas and clearly wasn't there yet. VY and Colt got to redshirt. VY sucked up until midway through his sophomore year and then he was a star. People were calling for his head after the 12-0 loss to OU where VY couldn't hit the side of a barn with the football. He got booed against Missouri and benched. Then, he became super man.

Ash was never given that chance. He has had some really good games for us and a few really bad ones. But, he never really was given the chance to develop like VY and Colt. I never got the hate for Ash. In several games, he looked really really good, but he was inconsistent. He is clearly not a team leader but has been working on that.
