Swoopes 1st team reps

Word through the social media grapevine is that Swoopes has been getting considerable practice with the 1st team offense. I'd love to see this kid get some meaningful playtime in a big game.

Next season, will Ash start with Swoopes as backup? Will Swoopes jump Ash who may be one hit away from being done with football. Surely Heard will be RS'd. We still don't know our starting QB for next season, again!

Thoughts or opinions on QB play vs. Oregon and next season. Hook'em.

I for one, would love to see Swoopes get considerable playing time, but I don't see Mack sitting Case down unless he's injured. From the little that I've seen from Swoopes in the games he's played in, I don't think he is ready. Of course, he really hasn't had the playing time that you would think the coaching staff would give him, after burning his redshirt. I am also looking forward to this being Case's LAST game. His scholarship has hurt the Horns QB position just as much as the coaching staff, and the reason we lost Brewer, IMO.

With it being their last game as head coach and QB, I don't see Case sitting. I think, as other people have said, if the score gets out of hand either way then you would see Swoops. Personally though I hope I'm wrong. Swoops seems to be getting a little flack here and there, IMO he hasn't gotten nearly enough reps after burning his RS to make an assumption about how good he'll be.

When Oregon has hung 28 unanswered on us in the first half, Mack might decide to give Swoopes some reps to save Case further humiliation.

Well that certainly makes sense. I'm sure the 4.9 QB rating in the Baylor game was a real confidence booster to Case.

Wasn't impressed with Swoopes though it's impossible to tell from such a small sample size what type of player he is. The things that did seem to me to be a bit troubling was that he didn't seem too quick out there. I know the game is fast and players can adjust but he seemed almost to lumber.

Being that I don't really care about the outcome of this game the way I normally would I'd like to just get to see Swoopes play. Why not?

The game hasn't really slowed down for him yet. You can't read the defense if you're worried about getting the snap off in time. If you don't know what the defense was, you're reacting instead of acting. It makes you look hesitant. Baby steps.

Before Swoopes time is done at Texas, I seriously doubt he plays any meaningful snaps. Mack fell in love with him because he reminded him of VY. I watched this kid live many times as a Jr or Sr at Whitewright. He never impressed me the way Heard does at Guyer. He's a nice kid and I root for him but I just don't see it. What you have left for 2014 is the following:

1. Ash returning with a bad melon.

2. Swoopes - a woefully unprepared QB that maybe could run 6-10 plays. All you need to see is what he did on the goal line against Tech. It's not happening.

3. Heard - I could see a scenario where Ash gets hurt and they go to Heard instead of Swoopes.

We need a JUCO in the worst way but will probably get shut out because of the coaching change. Next year is a big hit away on Ash from a 4-8 season.

Maybe Mack released the reins and Applewhite is going to open the playbook. Maybe Swoopes will be able to do more than hand the ball off. Maybe Case decided to step aside and let Swoopes get in and get some decent playing time for the best interest of the school. Maybe Mack feels bad about burning his RD and is going to reward him.

Or maybe not......

Remember when people were saying Vince could only run, had a funny throw, or needed to move to WR? I just wonder if Swoopes got a chance if he'd grow to be what we need. I haven't seen him outside of what little he's played though.

A JUCO would be ideal as an interim QB until Heard is ready. But you're right, with the coaching change we'd be hard pressed to snag someone capable.

I hope the next HC realizes how integral a good QB is for a program's success. Mediocrity, at best, has gone on far too long. How many more years without a definitive starter?
