Just reviewed my original bad post. Austin Horn said some fans want Pierce fired. my post said No but would like to see relief pitching  decisions improved

Now that is a bad post😀😁

I cannot really tell how you feel about the relief pitching. How about 10 more post about it, that way I could get some clarity… early to mid season relief pitching that is.

Inside Texas has a nice article about Pierce Free! Most will enjoy 99% of, some will ot like fourth paragraf from bottom.

That’s a great article. Pretty much sums it up, talks about Pierce as a winner and developing talent. Thanks for giving the insight. The 4th paragraph from the bottom simply says inconsistency in the bullpen, nobody has said there hasn’t been that. However it also talked about the possibility of a run, because of a winner as the leader of the program.

What caused the inconsistency? IMO it was using the wrong pitcher several times. As I asked you chech box scores and pitching stats. It is plain to see. Then some times coaches have favorites and just go to them tomuch. You are defending Pierce and it proably not his decision. Should be pitching coaches call. Overand out.

Tale as old as time, baseball fans questioning relief pitching decisions. In my opinion, it's more complicated than a box score and picking your next pitcher based on lowest ERA.

The decisions are also probably a lot more difficult when you don't have a lot of great options. There was a period when every relief pitcher seemed to want to walk every batter they faced. Things have improved there, probably a combination of better coaching decisions and some in season development to coach up the pitchers.

Team ERA is 13th in the nation. That's not too shabby

Not to shabby  that the whole staff. Going with a pitcher who has high walks allowed and a era 6.50 over one who does not walk many era 1.62 what is there to go by. Baseball is a sport of pre entages.

Oh well enoughwe will never agree on relief pitching.

Also, in the regular season you have to find out which pitchers you can rely on, what role best suits them, etc. Baseball is a game of failure…  and learning from it. I still haven’t seen a team go undefeated in baseball.

Please enlighten me on how to choose a relief pitcher.

IMO Shaw and Hurley was both better opyions than some used ahead of them Tole maybe.

Over and out and done unless post that vanished appears.

There is no preseason in college baseball.  And softball is not analogous to baseball.  In softball you only need 2 pitchers for a three game series.  I exaggerate but only a bit.  The ou team has used only 4 pitchers and three of them have around 100 innings and the 4th has 25 innings.  And Augie was wrong if he said that.  The best team does not always win in baseball...  and softball isn't baseball.  And little league is, well,  little league.

Preseason might should have been preconference. Belived Horns played 20+ games before TT.

Some one said

you cannot win them all. Augie replyed Damm sure can if you are good

 enough.

Peewee through major league baseball is basicly the same different age players. And coaching little league ( players just starting to play) takesmore work thana colledgehas to do.

Softball is some whatdifferent but still basicly the same. Might even harder to play as it is a faster game.

On the pitchers it easier to pitch a softball different motion. Oncesaw a 18 inning game 1-0 both pitchers ( men) went all the way..

Coaches consider pitching/batting matchups. Commonly right handed pitchers to face right handed batters. Deeper than that they scout batters tendencies and weaknesses - bad curveball hitter so they may choose their best curveball pitcher to send out there.

There is also bullpen management to consider throughout an entire series. These college pitchers may be good from 1 or 2 appearances over a 3 game series. You don't necessarily throw your best reliever out there on Friday night, it depends on the circumstance. You also don't put your best reliever out there in the 7th inning, you may be saving him for a high leverage situation or the 9th inning.

Finally, I think if you look at the stats you and Coach Pierce (or Woody Williams) agree on who the best relievers are. Shaw and Tole are the relievers with the most usage. Hurley has even more innings but he did start 5 games. In fact, the most used relief pitchers are the ones with the best ERAs. Only exception being Zane Morehouse and we all saw how that played out this year - tried him as closer but made the change when that wasn't working out.

So your gripe would have to be timing of when certain pitchers were used, not overall usage. And like I said, no baseball fan has ever agreed with pitching changes in hindsight if the other team scores.
