Predict the Schedule – 2023

Recommended Posts

Rice – Blowout

Bama – I call a win here because of QB. Ours is better and theirs hasn't had much time under center for that team. None of their three options are good ones, either. We take a narrow win.

Wyoming – Blowout

Baylor – Should be a TD or better win.

Kansas – Will be a tough, tough game. We win tho

Oklahoma – Blowout (lol)

Houston – Tight win

BYU – 2 TD or better win

K-State – Horns win a close one.

TCU – They have a new QB to break in, but this will be well into the season so he may have settled in by then. Dangerous game. TCU pulls it out.

Iowa State – 20 pt win

Tech – We need to kick them in the teeth one last time.

Thats 11-1 and a berth in the Conference Title Game, which we win over either OSU or TCU.

12-1 and good enough for the CFP.

What say you?

Good, except we beat TCU and I don't think Rice or Wyoming blows us out.

Assuming the D continues to improve

Rice – Easy win

Bama – Narrow win.

Wyoming – Narrow win due to Bama hangover.

Baylor – Win and beat the spread.

Kansas – Easy win

Oklahoma – Narrow win.

Houston – We'll beat em up, beat em up, not sorry cougar high!

BYU – Narrow win

K-State – Win

TCU – Win

Iowa State – Narrow win

Tech – Revenge blowout.

12-0

This sounds about right on paper, but it never happens that way. Hope you're right, but nope. Not sucking me into this evil evil game... lol

Rice – Blowout win

Bama – Narrow win.

Wyoming – Comfortable win due to confidence gained from Bama win.

Baylor – Win but too close for comfort

Kansas – Easy win

Oklahoma – Easier win than expected

Houston – We should beat them fairly easily

BYU – Narrow win

K-State – Tough game but a win

TCU – Defense wins this one

Iowa State – Narrow win

Tech – Exclamation point win

12-0

CCG - Depends on who we play but I think this team smells it and pulls this one out for CFP

I don't get why everyone thinks Kansas will be easy this year. That QB of theirs gave us fits last year. He got hurt but whenever he was in there, Kansas was a threat to win.

He might be the best QB in the conference this year.

Daniels is absolutely a top notch QB, but I believe they lost 2 or 3 of their top OL and a lot on defense from what I remember.

Anyway, I'll play

Rice – Blowout win, but slow start in the 1st half

Bama – Narrow loss

Wyoming – Blowout win where Neyor gets his confidence back against his former team

Baylor – Win by 10

Kansas – Texas finally gets that KU monkey off their back and completely destroys them (55-17)

Oklahoma – Close win

Houston – We should beat them fairly easily

BYU – Hard fought win

K-State – Tough game but a win

TCU – Texas wins going away in the 4th Qtr

Iowa State – It's their Superbowl so it will be close. Narrow win

Tech – Texas shows TT why everything still runs through Austin and why Lubbock is the part of Texas no one wants.

11-1 Season record.

Once again, I peruse our football schedule "and think to myself, what a wonderful world".

Then these bricks start falling on my head starting with 2010, then 2011, 2012,... Animated-Picture-Of-Wile.E-Coyote.gif

I see only 1 team on our schedule that can give us a heck of a game. And that is 'Bama. ouSux would usually give us a game but they are still "rebuilding" so not this year. No other team strikes fear in me. This team has improved and is talented but I'm not convinced we're back.

We only have 1 QB with 1 year of experience. If QE goes down, we're back to no experience QBs, unless you count Wright's game or two. So I see 1 loss here.

Our OL has gotten better, but without Bijan and RoJo, they need to be much better. Are we there yet? Can they pass block and run block in the same game? I see 0.5 loss here.

DL? another spot that could potentially bring us another 0.5 loss. A good DL can hide a weakness in DBs by not giving the QB time, but good DBs can't be expected to cover everyone for 7+ seconds if the QB has all the time in the world.

So the question becomes, where are the losses? The away games are the ones that I'm concerned about. Baylor, TCU, Houston, Iowa State. I think there is at least 1 loss there.

I agree with most everything you said in this post.

However, I think a little more highly of the OL than you do. I think we have a chance to be dominant here.

Also, I think Brooks showed me enough the last year to feel confident in good ground game. Maybe not Bijan good, but still good.

DL, we will be better and deeper than last year. Sweat should be an AA this coming season.

In a perfect world, we whip every Big 12 team we play on our way out the door. But I would be more likely to bet on an unexpected loss, as you suggest. Don't know why, just seems to happen every year, losing to a team we shouldn't. Maybe, just maybe, we've grown beyond that.

But, we win the Big 12.
Hoping for a championship shot, but it will more likely happen in 24

I think 2023 and 2025 are our best shots at a championship.   2024 most likely we are starting a QB with little experience.

Who is the best QB we will face this year?  I don't see many that would even be considered "above average".  Walker Howard and Daniels maybe??  Dillon Gabriel, Blake Shapen, Tyler Shough and whoever TCU trots out shouldn't "scare anyone to death".

@ Iowa State late in the year could be tricky IMO.

I think Daniels is the best QB in the conference not in a Texas uniform. Dillon Gabriel didn't show me anything last year. I fear his young, freshman backup more than I do him.

Shapen is good at times. Very inconsistent though. Don't really know much about Shough.

I think ISU could be falling apart during the off-season. They just busted their football, basketball and several other programs for betting on games. Iowa, too.

KFord rankings have Texas at exactly 9.5 wins. Favored in all but 1 game (Bama) and pretty big favorites in all but 3 games (Bama, OU and TCU).

I actually think TCU won't be that tough and I think Tech will actually be a tougher game. I'd swap those two percentages.

I'm also not as concerned about OU as KFord is.

I believe Las Vegas is putting the under/over at 9.5. I figure the two most likely losses will be at Alabama and at Big-12 refs. The at Big-12 refs could be 2 losses but if UT can only play one close game, it should be only one loss. 10-2

Vegas put the total at 9.5 for blowU as well.

As long as Dillon Gabriel is the QB, ou will not get to 10 wins. Some speed on the outside, some nice defensive improvements. But they aren't there yet.

Thats 11-1 and a berth in the Conference Title Game, which we win over either OSU or TCU.

12-1 and good enough for the CFP.

What say you?

I second Big Daddy Cane's point in saying it never plays out the way it shows on paper, and I absolutely will not get sucked into drinking the koolaid until I see us win games we're supposed to win.

Rice – W

Bama – L

Wyoming – W

Baylor – L

Kansas – W

Oklahoma – W

Houston – W

BYU – W

K-State – L

TCU – L

Iowa State – W

Tech – W

Prediction: 8-4. Hope they prove me wrong.

Baylor is going to be awful this year. QB is improving, but they lost a lot.

K-State, TCU and Tech and Kansas are legitimate threats at an upset.
