Eastexhorn
Havehigh hopes for the 6-7 southpaw fros USC. Looked in two innings of releif. Possibly astarter byconference time. Sirhornsalot
Moderator joeywa Posted February 20 Moderator Report Share Posted February 20 This team has a lot of work to do. Replacing the production left by the departures is going to be a significant task. There is talent on the roster, but it’s young. Patience will be something everyone should exercise. Tanner Witt on pace to be back after a few conference series, that'll be a huge boost to the rotation as well. java

I simply said that IMO I think the talent is lacking on the baseball team and the recruiting rankings from 2019 reflect that we have lagged behind. Weird that it was deleted. Maybe something else occurred - I know I've made posts... not seen them.... then made them again, only for both to apear later. I made a similar observation to yours above, after watching this team play against Arkansas. This team just isn't very talented. Last year's team was, perhaps, one of the best I've ever seen. And my fandom goes back to many of the glory Gustafson years and through Augie. I understand losing our best pitching prospect (arguably) hurt.... but as odd as it sounds, I thought last year was a bit disappointing when all was said and done. Pitching depth may not have been elite - but that WAS the best hitting lineup I've ever seen at Texas. With very good MLB prospects at Catcher and Short Stop. I'll look and hope for improvement.... but I wonder if the seat might get a little warm under Pierce if this team really struggles. Especially when you consider Aggy is really good this year, with an outstanding second year coach. And so is TCU (so far). We are headed to the SEC which is probably even better in baseball than they are in football. I know Pierce has done really well in the post season, and I think he's a good coach. Just speculating.... on a forum.... imagine that? Bear19 and Eastexhorn 1

Just speculating.... on a forum.... imagine that? This could be a bit of a rebuilding year with a lot of young guys out there right now... The seat was hot last year for Pierce according to some and I doubt it'll be different if the team struggles this year. That said, even if Texas doesn't go to Omaha this year, Pierce will still be tracking at the 50% CWS rate as the program has throughout it's history. I won't be calling for his head even if this year is a bit disappointing.
java
As long as the most talented players jump as Juniors, it is going to be about 50% for the most successful programs, I would think.

BWilk55
Baseball opened the big 12 season with a 6-2 win over Texas Tech. A good start by Gordon but he got touched up in the 6th inning and Morehouse came in and shut Tech down over 3.2 innings of work. Texas played good situational ball to get the first run before going down 1-2. Quickly responded with a 2 run Porter Brown homerun to retake the lead and then later put up a 3 run inning for some insurance. Still too early to say but the early season offensive struggles have perhaps been overcome. Also, the shaky defense has seemed to improve a lot as well. I still expect some bumps along the way, but I’m seeing this team push through adverse times. That’s good to see.
