In hindsight, Longhorns should have waited to see what happens and if he is found gulity, Longhorns should have let him go and if not, Longhorns should have kept him, it is too late now

I think UT did the right thing. Even though he wasn't prosecuted, this stuff would have been used against him every recruiting season as well as during the hoops season. This was just too much baggage for UT. UT needed to separate itself from this.

Agreed. With Beard I thought we had our basketball coach for the next decade or two but sadly, it was not meant to be.

agree to a point. I shrug and could go either way on this

I dont think it would hurt recruiting and I dont think players would really care one way or the other.  And, I also dont think the administration cares one wit about that type of recruiting "baggage."

Something like this would have been forgotten in week 40 yrs ago as long as the situation is reconciled.  However, today, there is ZERO tolerance for certain category of people if something is perceived as politically incorrect at an institution that's liberal and wants to be perceived as such. That's the climate today.

I would normally reply, but you defeated your own point in the same post.

You don't think it would hurt and no one would care – next graph – zero tolerance in today's woke climate.

I don’t really know how to express this, but I will try.

When someone drinks too much, too often, it usually spills over into their professional life.  A person can only burn the candle at both ends for so long, before it starts to show. It takes a toll, both physically and emotionally.

A 50+ year old man can’t stay up until 1 or 2am every night, get up at 6 or 7, and keep pace with 30 something coaches who eat right, work out, and have a reasonably normal home life.

Look at Beard’s face, not after he was arrested, but at the end of last season. He doesn’t look healthy.

I’m just wondering how an unhealthy man gets through the rigors of a Division I college basketball program’s schedule and remains cool, calm, and collected.

It could be that the Assistant Coaches were already doing a lot of the heavy lifting, possibly even carrying on some of Beard’s duties because he was unavailable.

That was very awkwardly written, but that is basically what I was trying to say.

Guys, let's be clear about something - putting your hands on a woman is not politically incorrect or against "woke" climate of today. It is, and pretty much always has been, an absolute no go. These sort of incidents should not be "forgotten in a week" though they were easier to brush under the rug in yesteryear.

I am working from the assumption that something did go down that night he was arrested. I have yet to see anything that comes close to refuting that. The initial police report was pretty damning and his fiancees statement several days later walked a few claims back but still didn't go as far as to deny a physical altercation occurred. The charges being dropped because it can't be proven beyond a shadow of a doubt, especially without her cooperation, also does nothing to make me think it was a totally innocent 4 am happening.

The fact that he was involved in an incident in the middle of the night that led to his arrest for a felony charge is enough for him to get canned for "behavior unbecoming of a head coach".

If you are working from an assumption that Beard in fact did absolutely nothing wrong, I could agree that the firing is more about perception than reality.

The way the team has responded to Terry, I wonder at times what was going on behind the scenes.

I think the team was just dealt a blow losing their popular head coach and rallied around an assistant coach that was already popular. Kudos to everyone involved because it could have been a lot worse.

If I remember correctly, it was reported that Beard had no alcohol in his system when booked. He looked worried in his booking photo probably because he knew he was fixing to lose his $5M a year job along with his reputation.

Idk how much of what you explained (very well I might add) contributed to this but I know we lost a player/recruit because Beard created (what the player) considered a "toxic environment". I can't explain in depth because that's all I was told from this player's mother. And I didn't ask her to elaborate

Most of us, including myself loved Beard when he was here. One player doesn't like him and now he's toxic? What about all the others who did like him and played for him at Tech and Texas? Sorry but not taking the word of one player over a bunch of others.

I think his career is effectively over now.  He may be innocent maybe not.  Negative recruiting is going to be easy.  Just ask mom: Do you want your son to go be mentored for 4 years by a "wife beater"?  It could potentially effect our other sports too.  Ask a volleyball player: what kind of campus culture do you want to go spend 4 years in?

It's all over but the crying.  You can't let that cloud hang over the athletic department.

And you are wrong on that, Beard got the head coaching job at Ole Mississippi today so next time stop making assumptions and shut up

I said I think and I was wrong. Some schools don’t care.  But I’m glad he’s not coaching Texas. You shouldn’t lay a hand on a woman. Much less your teeth.

And I won’t shut up.  You can talk a bunch of whatever on here saying things you wouldn’t say to my face.  You should  crawl back to whatever rock you crawled out from under.  Bringing things up from three months ago.  Something tells me you created a new user name because you didn’t have the guts to post this under your long time user name.

That confirms it, you are an idiot and all you do is talk, talk, talk which means you would never shut up, I would say anything to your face, I am not a chicken but too bad you are a chicken since you are too scared to come to me and say anything to my face but your loss! Have a good day dipshit!

Your quote was from 2 months before this guy even created his account so I think you may be on to something. Either an existing user who wanted to blast you under a new name. Or a new user who read back through the thread to bring back up some quotes and start an argument. Either way, I don't think he'll be around here long.

Let's hope he isn't around much longer.
