Thoughts on the Beard hire? Did we decide too quickly? Or was there too much damage for him in Austin?

Ole Miss will be the next power in the SEC hoops

Hard to know if they over looked some bright yellow flags when they hired him,or if they didn't know anything.

At any rate it was a good hire. He elevated the program, it's in a much better position now then when he arrived,  and by letting him go the school reputation is mostly intact.

Apparently Ole Miss was willing to overlook things that TX wasn't.  I'm guessing they have some red lines in his contact that he can't cross.  I hope he is successful,  except when he plays TX.

I agree that Ole Miss will be much better.  Beard is obviously excellent at evaluating talent.

I just don't think Texas could keep him.  If he had been accused of most anything other than abuse towards a woman, he might have had a chance, but in today's society NO.  Looks to me that we are going to probably extend Terry and hope he  is as good with his recruits as with Beard's.

Ole Miss is not exactly the school I would use to calibrate my moral compass. I think Texas did what they had to do and time will tell if Terry is the long term solution. So far, so good.

I'm also glad Beard got a 2nd chance. He's a good coach and hope he learned from that situation. Great hire on the court for Ole Miss.

I think we had to move on. My friend in Lubbock said it was common knowledge that Beard was a hot head... and the fiancé was a bit out there, also.

Of course, my buddy also thought Adams was the better coach of two. Now, he is just happy it's baseball season!

I am curious how this situation changes things for Beard as a coach. Can he still pull off the goofy character off the court to inspire the fan with his fireside chats etc? Can he still coach the players the same with them knowing what he has been accused of previously? Will he still be able to recruit 5 star talent while sitting in living rooms with mothers wanting to know if he strangled his fiance?

I am still in the innocent until proven guilty camp. I was raised to believe that is one of the foundational tenants of our country. But I see how UT is these days and didn't expect anything different.

A quote from one of the Ole Miss Suits, “We are excited to welcome Coach Beard and his daughters, Avery, Ella and Margo, to the Ole Miss family," Carter said. "We thoroughly evaluated a number of outstanding candidates, and there is no doubt Coach Beard is one of the top coaches in the nation. After conducting due diligence and speaking to a number of individuals on and off the court, it was evident he is the right person to guide our team to greatness."

hmm, welcome and come on down coach beard and bring your three daughters. .but, but, but wait, whatta about his lady?   She’s not mentioned.  Wonder if that was part of his deal.  Interesting!

Lol,

"Again, I am certainly not trying to avoid the question, but Randi and I have agreed not to discuss the details," Beard said.

so he's not trying to avoid the question,  but unwilling to address it? I guess maybe that can work at Ole Miss.

That is a private matter unless you are in court. Use Sark's answer I know but will not tell.

In todays woke environment, Beard's response seems legitimate.

He doesn't need to answer it, but if he doesn't it will be an unresolved question on many people's mind.

Mostly I thought it was ridiculous that he says he isn't avoiding the question,  while avoiding answering the question.

If Beard says ANYTHING about the matter, it will become a beach-ball topic, always getting batted around and never quite hitting the ground. He did the smart thing.

It seems like he could have made some kind of statement that showed some regret, and then said that is all he is ever going to say on the matter. To say he isn't avoiding the question seems disingenuous.

It obviously best for him and Ole Miss for him to close the book on this. I just thought it was clumsy how he did it.

Last night an Austin news channel showed a clip of him walking onto the Ol Miss court with his daughters right behind him, Randi Trew was nowhere in sight.

Heres the thing, neither he nor Randi have come out and denied that physical violence occurred.

He refers to her statement from 12/23. She walked back a few things, including the strangling accusation but even then, did not deny a physical altercation.

If there was no physical altercation, don't you think we would be hearing that from Beard and/or Randi?

Lastly, here is a link to the police affidavit. If you are standing up for coach Beard, how exactly do you explain the injuries that were documented as being observed by the police officers responding (page 3)? https://twitter.com/AnwarRichardson/status/1602441327643594752/photo/3

I think when you read the police report,  and consider the nature of the relationship, and the financial aspects it was very predictable that she would back off eneugh for the charges to be dropped. I think most people believe he behaved in a most unacceptable way. That's not to say that he should be denied all opportunities,  and is irredeemable.

I don't know what all of the legal ramifications are, but I would look better on it if he accepted some responsibility,  and indicated he is taking steps to address his demons. Think about Sark, we know he made some big mistakes in his life, but he was able to move past it by confronting his issues,  to a point where it isn't something he needs to hide from.

Expressing regret indicates or implies guilt. He couldn't do that.

I will guarantee you this.   Beard won’t be as good at Ole Miss like he was at Tech/Texas.

he’s using Ole Miss to build back his reputation then will jump to another big school in 3-5 years (assuming he wins at Ole Miss).

I’m over his saga and want to spend my limited time on hoping Terry is the right guy.  If he is, it means we do well in the tourney!

Yeah, but Sark's issues were there for everyone to see and done over a prolonged period of time. The acceptance of Sark was not immediate, even while at Alabama.

I think it was best for Texas to move on, although technically, he isn't guilty of anything. If the police report was the end-all for Texas, then Texas should have said as much.

It appears that he's moved on from his girlfriend and that's probably a good thing for him. She obviously did not bring out the best in him.

I think you are on to something here for sure. Being an alcoholic isn't illegal. So Sark can admit to that with no legal ramifications.

Had Beard given any explanation of his actions during this pressor it could be used in court as evidence and maybe the dropped charges would be picked back up.

I do think he could give a carefully worded statement of regret for whatever occurred and explained how he has rectified things without also admitting guilt on the domestic violence charge.
