This doesn't include baseball, that is currently just outside of the top 25 and rowing who will almost certainly ranked #1 once their season starts. Also, Outdoor track and field teams will likely have similar rankings when the time comes, track and field really isn't very different indoor vs outdoor. I also would not be surprised to see Men's track and field jump ip in the rankings - these rankings are based on actual results in meets and that data is a bit limited this early in the season. Men's Golf ranking was based on last fall's performance. That was before they added Christian Maas, a south african phenom who is an incoming freshmen and an all american golfer from Oklahoma State. They sit alone on top of the big12 standings with Iowa State dropping a game today. They started 3-4 (with Rori Harmon hurt) and have been 14-2 since then. Men's track did jump into the top 10, up to #8 after the distance runners competed this weekend. Look for another jump after they compete in a full meet this weekend in New Mexico. Look for #18 Men's Golf to make a move in the rankings. They won the Southwestern Invitational, beating host #14 Pepperdine by 13 strokes and besting 3rd place #4 Arizona state by 18 strokes. Surprisingly, the low scores for Texas came from their 3 stud freshmen, including Jacob Sosa who set a Texas record by shooting a 61 in round 1. Top 10 ranked Brian Stark and Travis Vick didn't factor into the scoring much due to the success of the freshmen. Imagine what this team could do if the freshmen continue to play well and the two stud seniors play like they are capable! BWilk55
It is way too early to do this but I was writing a piece for Inside Texas and went ahead and did a deep dive at predicting the finish. To predict the finish, I used the current rankings which are out for every sport except rowing (I used last years finish). I also assumed indoor track rankings would be the same as for outdoor track and field. Using this method Texas is currently looking to score 1435 points (last year they scored 1449). Stanford would score 1402. Only 3 times have teams scored more than 1400 under the new scoring system (since 2018). Stanford in 2018 and 2019 and Texas in 2022. Obviously lots of current rankings will fluctuate and teams will either over or underperform in NCAA championships but it is nice to see that there is a very realistic path for Texas to 3-peat. BWilk55
Some results over the last week: #9 Softball went undefeated this weekend in Austin. They were not playing the toughest of competition but picked up 6 consecutive wins this week to move to 8-1-1 #7 Mens Tennis has knocked off #1 Ohio State and #4 Michigan at the indoor national championships. They play #3 TCU tomorrow in the finals (this is not an NCAA championship). #1 Womens Tennis was upset in the indoor semi's last week by #14 Iowa State. They rebounded by beating #15 OU in the consolation match. #17 Womens hoops rebounded after their loss to at #22 Iowa State by whooping WV. They have a big game against OU on Saturday for control of the big 12 lead with both teams currently 12-3. #15 Men's Golf tournament in Hawaii was a wash but they did play match play against #11 Georgia Tech on the last day there and had a convincing victory. tejasrulz

BWilk55
#3 Men Swim and Dive won the Big 12 this weekend. Something like 27 in a row. Next year they have a chance to have had won all the big 12 championships while in the conference. #2 Womens S&D also took home the gold, their 11th in a row. #5 Men's Track placed 3rd behind two very strong teams in Tech and Oklahoma St. All 3 of these programs will be in play for a podium finish at NCAAs. #1 Women's Track got beat by #23 Oklahoma State for the big 12 crown. How did an upset of this magnitude happen? Their is not much distance running competition within the big 12 and this is a strong suit of Oklahoma State. They racked up 59 of their 146 points on runs 1 mile or longer. At the NCAA level, they are not expected to score many points in these same events as other conference teams will knock them out of the scoring. On the flip side, Texas will still be expected to score points in the NCAAs in their top events as our runners our tops in the nation, not just the Big 12. tejasrulz

Texas men's swimming has won 43 conference championships in a row dating back to 1980, Eddie Reece took over in 1979...he's also got 15 NCAA national championships! I may be wrong but I believe that Eddie's the most successful college coach in the history of college sports. This is my oldest with Eddie, he was more excited about meeting him than he was the fact that he'd just finaled in the 100 free. The banners in the back are the NCAA championships. hookemhorb, lshorn79, longhorndon and 3 others 3

I think you are right about all the above. I also wonder how long he will keep at it? He tried to retire 1-2 seasons back but CDC worked with him in regards to his travel duties etc and he was glad to stay on and keep coaching. BWilk55
Men's Golf is currently in 2nd place at the Southern Highlands Classic, behind #4 North Carolina. The tournament has 8 other top 25 teams in the field. Crazy thing is, Tommy Morrison (freshmen) is playing as an individual instead of on the team, and if they had his scores they'd be tied for first. Morrison is tied for 11th overall, while fellow Freshmen phenom Christiaan Maas is tied for 3rd. All-American Transfer from Ok St. Brian Stark is also tied for 11th while Jacob Sosa is tied for 13th. Hero of last years National Championship team, Travis Vick has not been playing too hot so far this Spring and is tied for 47th after the worst round each day by a Texas Golfer. tejasrulz

The 4th super freshmen, Tommy Morrison didn't play as part of the 5 man team but did finish tied for 9th at under. Had he been included in the team score, they would have finished 8 strokes better! 6 very talented golfers on this team. 2 seniors and 4 freshmen which bodes well for the future as well.
