The Mighty Sark has struck out

In back to back weeks, TEXAS has lost to the worst and 2nd worst teams in the BigXII. One only has to look at a single stat to see why TEXAS lost. These happen to be the 2 worst rushing teams in the BigXII averaging 115 and 146 yards per game respectively. Both went over 200 yards rushing vs the Longhorns. TEXAS is denied getting to 6 wins and bowl eligibility for only the 3rd time this century. And you have to go back to 1956 to find a longer losing streak than our current 6 about to be 7 which lead to the hiring of DKR. One has to wonder if the Mack Brown curse is in full effect.

The Cheap Seats took last week off due to the Marine Corps Ball and a trip to Destin for our Squadron (HMM 262 Flying Tigers) reunion. At least that is our excuse as TEXAS "enjoyed" their worst loss in program history. Some might argue the Baylor 50-7 game on a miserable day but a tallest midget argument. While some might say Route 66 or one of the OU games, all of those were losses to good teams. Kansas and WVU were ranked at the bottom of the BigXII before they beat TEXAS.

We're not going to spend much time on this game, we got whipped on both sides of the ball. Our WRs had at least 4 drops, sadly everyone would have been a 1st down. Our defense was GASHED by another poor rushing team spot lighted by missed tackles and missed assignments. This season has officially circled the drain.

Keep Sark, Dump Sark?

Biggest question going. Did we hire the wrong guy? If you think so, let us know who you take.

We believe Sark has at least 2 more seasons barring a repeat of 2021 in 2022. And this team is a mess. While we had some great recruiting classes in the past, so far we have lost right at half of 2018 and 2019. Breaking it down 2018 featured 18 4 star ranked guys, 11 of them no longer on the team. The guy we REALLY miss is Cameron Rising who is playing well at Utah. We have 2-3 more wins with Rising at the helm. 2019 saw 16 4 star guys, 9 of them gone. Those guys should be the core of this year's team. BTW, only recruited 12 4 or 5 star guys in 2020 but the good news is, we have only lost 1 or 2. So while we have certainly lost talent, we are not devoid of talent. From that list, the biggest disappointment is the big ugglies (on both sides) who we have failed to develop. Coach Flood, time to get to work.

So how does Sark turn things around in 2022? Sark has already talking about a 33 player turnover. Rumors have floated that number may go as high as 40. We're not sure the rules but frankly, this team needs players who buy into these coaches systems. If you aren't rowing the boat with us, C Ya. . .wouldn't want to B Ya. Time to clean out the cupboard.

Our step by step approach to the off season

#1 thing we suggest, take a page out of Dave Aranda's book or Michigan state's book and hit the portal hard. Michigan State found a Heisman candidate in the portal. Baylor found 2 starting OLs. TEXAS needs help at several spots but none more glaring than OL. Frankly outside of Jake Majors, would not hurt our feelings to get 4 new OLs. Flood has too strong a reputation to think he cannot develop OLs.
#2 this team lacks pass rush. Good lord we made a back up QB and one of the weakest QBs in the league look good the past 2 weeks because we cannot pressure. Be it scheme, portal and/or development, we simply have to be stronger up front.
#3 Portal a QB. Sorry, we did Card no favors comparing him to Aaron Rodgers. Now he had one beautiful pass today, he had too many that weren't even close. Maybe he needs at least one more offseason but right now we do not have a QB1 going into 2022.
#4 Sark and PK badly need to self evaluate. They both seem way too rigid and stuck to "their systems". Great coaches adapt their systems to their players talent. See Greg Davis. He ran 3 very distinct offenses at TEXAS (power running with Ricky, WCO with Major/Simms and read option with Vince) and very much morphed the VY system to fit Colt. Would not hurt our feelings if part of that tweak was involving our TEs in the offense.
#5 Hold onto this recruiting class and land 2-4 more of the studs we're chasing.
#6 Strong evaluation of the current coaching staff. PK has done the poorest but we're changing COs too often. We'd jump all over Samples from SMU as our WR coach and if we can upgrade elsewhere, let's do so. This includes the S&C side.
#7 TEXAS needs to go all in on a BiJan 4 Heisman campaign in 2022. This helps create excitement around the team, in portal recruiting and in 2023 recruiting.

That's the offseason. As fans we need to see if Sark and keep this recruiting class together, add 2-4 more but most importantly for 2022, how he does in the portal. From the portal TEXAS needs 2-4 OLs with at least 2 starters, a QB a LB and a Safety, WR wouldn't hurt our feelings either. Top portal sell especially for OLs, we (as in TEXAS) as he'll be in the show in 2023. Our 2022 objective is to get TEXAS to 8 games and to see BR in NYC at the end of the year. That will show significant improvement from the train wreck that is this season.

Stats that matter

1937 Last year a TEXAS HC failed to win at least 6 games in his 1st season. Dana X Bible would go onto the College Football Hall of Fame.
12/20 WVU on 3rd down which included a 3rd and 18 and 3rd and 15. Prior to this week, WVU was worst in the BigXII at 25%
2/10 TEXAS on 3rd down, both conversions came in the 4th quarter.
4-4 WVU red zone scoring chances and scores.
4 TEXAS would open on offense with four drives of 3 and outs
17 WVU would enjoy a 17 minute greater time of possession.

Offensive/Defensive player of the game

You are joking right?

On Deck

KSU A well coached team with a strong QB, RB and WR. Just exactly what TEXAS does not need to see. Friday shapes up to be a scary game for the Horns. This team has played with no heart for weeks against a team looking to make a statement against the Horns and upgrade their bowl invite. Today we are NOT a well coached team

Mack Brown watch.

Won vs a tomato can to become bowl eligible for the 2nd year in Mack's 2nd tenure at UNC. He has UNC heading in the right direction and capped off the week landing the commit of an EsPN 300 WR who was down to UNC and Clemson. While UNC has under achieved this season (or was simply over rated), Mack has UNC on the rise.

UTSA Road Runners

Former TEXAS assist coach Jeff Traylor secures a spot in his conference title game as UTSA goes to 11-0. Ranked #22 in the CFP poll before they beat UAB. Let's go Roadrunners.

Ranking the BigXII

#1 Baylor They get the top spot for beating OU but they need OSU to win Bedlam to go to the BigXII CCG
#2 OU Win and they are in, lose and they are out
#3 OSU Locked up the other half of the CCG based on their win over Baylor regardless of outcome of Bedlam
#4 ISU They ate too much of the cheese this offseason and their season wasn't as strong as they hoped but they are in line for a nice bowl game
#5 KSU Bowl eligible, they would LOVE to close out their season kicking our asses at DKR
#6 TT Based on beating WVU they get the 6 spot, they are already bowl eligible which is important as they may lose out
#7 WVU Needs to beat Kansas to go bowling.
#8 TCU Not bowl eligible and faces ISU to close out the season. Is Sonny Dykes their next HC???
#9 Kansas Only time this year they did not occupy the 10 spot. But they beat us and to the victor go the spoils
#10 TEXAS 6 game losing streak, losing to 2 of the WORST teams in the BigXII in back to back weeks

Our Playoff projections
(based on how we think it finishes)

#1 Georgia Best team in America today

#2 tOSU/Mich winner tOSU has improved significantly since losing to Oregon, we expect tOSU to roll Mich

#3 Cincy They are pulling hard for Georgia. If Bama pulls the upset, they fill this spot

#4 ND Currently #8 in the CFP poll, likely moves to 4 or 5 this week.

Just a bit outside

Oklahoma as they are only ranked #13 right now. Will be interesting to see how they move up if they can win back to back games vs OSU

Bama, their path to playoff is simple, beat Auburn Beat Georgia and they are in.

The problem with dumping Sark now is the HC pickings are slim. Unless you believe a guy like Traylor is ready for The Show today.

Perhaps being known as a turnstile coaching position might pose a problem as well? That and gaining a perception of no patience and a place where coaching careers go to die.

Yeah, that is also cause for pause. But, I still don't believe Sark will fix it no matter how much time he's given.

There are no guarantees in life or coaching. If thats what we're looking for, we'll never find it.

Hire Saban tomorrow, it's still not guaranteed.

Nope, there isn't.

Urban and Saban were the closest to guarantees we had a shot at. Both declined for whatever reasons. Now we gotta hope a Chris Beard type falls into our laps for football, too, in a couple of years.

Great write up.

Doesn't Cincy get in over  ND with the head to head match up? Or is the committee as bad as a the computer?  No way either OSU or OU gets in.

Tired of the false talk of Saban coming here. He has openly said he had zero desire to come here and follow Mack. He had more respect for Mack than apparently most on any sites. Believe the dipshit Chip Brown if you want, but even half the BMDs didn't  think he would come here and then ones that did are now understanding the false narrative of having good to grest players and most see the smoke and mirrors of Strong and Herman used to get the wins we have had. Urban, I get some wanted him, but after  him going full fist up an escort backside, I'll  passmas will most of the BMDs.

So, a total rebuild if we truly get 30+ out and 33+ plus in with a large number being freshmen and another strong freshmen class next year with a another group of postal in both classes.

As to someone asking asking about the number of portals  v. Freshmen.:

I saw that I  think it was Texas State, but but it was some small school around Texas or in the south that instead of using their 15 schoolarships on freshmen  they used them on portal players from P5 players. So, guessing that we could use on the right players in the portal and get a solid freshmen class followed by another solid freshmen class and a lower amount of portal players.

The truly guarantee we have is death and taxes, and if you are one of these snowflakes known as progressives than they don't pay taxes, but make certain  that everyone else does.

The problem with "purging the roster of 30+ malcontents" is you risk alienating the HS coaches who helped bring them to UT in the first place. Let's say Coburn is run off. Do you really want to risk alienating the people at North Shore?

Sark is in a tough spot. The purge should've started last spring, but didn't. We're probably looking at 6-6 in 2022 if it does happen.

Biggest question is why didn't current players "buy into Sark's vision"?

Well,  not certain they are all malcontents, but maybe these 4 stars guys are at their ceiling and maybe should be at G5 or smaller schools?  We haven't  had the pipeline to North Shore like we used to.

But hasn't Allen been dissing us because of former coaches there were aggies. So, it's got a 2 way street for the HS coaches and the UT coaches.

Not certain why they didn't buy into Sark's vision, but I guess these coaches were giving them a chance ?

Yes, the purge probably should've happened last spring.
