Steve Sarkisian announced during his weekly press conference that he was making a QB switch. Casey Thompson will start Saturday's game against Rice after coming off the bench to lead a pair of scoring drives last week at Arkansas. Sarkisian also said Card will play.

On the decision, head coach Steve Sarkisian had this to say:

"Well I think Casey has performed well... In the Louisiana game, yeah I think three drives and scores 10 points. Came in against Arkansas, put 14 points on the board.  Bottom line is, it's not always about how you execute every play, it's about are you maneuvering the offense down the field to score points. And I think Casey has put himself in a good position to do that."

Hudson Card will plays as well, as was mentioned by Sarkisian at today's press conference.

I like the move.  I don't think we learn too much from this.  We beat rice at home if one of the walkon QBs starts.  Ok, maybe not.  It'll be interesting who starts against tech and ou.

We know Casey will do well against rice.  So if he falters against tech, we have a big question of who gets the start against ou.  We don't want to be there.

Letting Casey start against Rice. What would be the downside?

You take live snaps from your fantasy starter?

You lose a chance to rebuild the confidence of Card who had it destroyed in FayetNam?

I mean, how many reasons do you need? lol

Sark is "letting" (lol) Thompson start because Card stunk the place up. Thompson scored TDs when given the chance.

Are you getting a door prize or steak knives if Card starts? lol

Imagine Shark trying to gently figure out how to keep both buys, when he knows one fits his scheme better? Letting one start but the other one play taken a step further is letting them start against Rice. Shark knows Casey is the fan favorite, and the 2nd team QB is always the most popular man in town. He has to give Casey a fair shot, regardless of the outcome of the 1st games. Not saying he doesn't deserve it either, and he could earn the job. I find it unlikely that Shark goes with a run 1st QB long term.

in 1966 Texas had the most highly touted Soph QB maybe ever. The Kid was on the cover of SI before he had ever played a DOWN. Texas goes 6-4 with him and all that talent..In 1967 he goes 6-4 in 1968 he starts out loss to TT and tie U of H. DKR makes a change and puts in James Street. Street never lost a game. Texas goes on to win 30 in a row.

Sometimes the most talented guy is not the best option.

Well, it depends on what talent you're referencing. I don't think anyone will deny that Thompson is the faster, better, and more instinctive runner. 4.55 vs 4.79 40-yard dash, for starters.

You left out ONE big factor, DKR also had Emory Bellard switch the offense to something they called the Wishbone, not saying Bill Bradley couldnt have run it, but obviously James Street ran it to perfection thanks to Worster, Bertelsen and Koy, along with having Weunsch, McKay and others to run behind
