Thoughts and Takeaways: Questions mount during blowout loss in Fayetteville

Also, that Colorado game wasn't a blowout when Casey came in. We were only up 17-10 at halftime and the offense looked pretty stagnant at times during the first half. We outscored Colorado 38-13 in the second half. I'm not saying Casey was facing a great team, but I think he deserves a little more credit for that game considering how the first half went.

Casey exposed Sam. Sam cost us 3 games his FR year with pic's.

And their win percentage was what 😉

They were 4-2 after the bowl game. They lost to the only ranked teams they played.

It was a great coming out party for Casey, who without an injury might have never gotten a chance. It was the straw that broke Herman's back, exposing that he may have had a better QB sitting on the bench for a few years...

In '18 Thompson was the 14th ranked dual threat QB. Trevor Lawrence was #1 that year.

In "20 Card was the 2nd ranked dual threat QB. Bryce Young (Alabama) was #1.

Last week, Card never took the opportunity to run when he had the chance. I don't give a crap what he did in high school and neither should Sark. We know he supposedly throws better with a red jersey on during practice.

Here a few other fun facts.

Prior to the bowl game, Colorado had a higher win percentage than Texas did.

Texas was 1-1 against ranked teams.

Texas lost to 2 unranked teams.

And, no, Casey playing well in the bowl game WAS NOT the straw that broke Herman's back. That's laughable.

The way I see it the loss was embarrassing, but it's not the end of the world. This is an experienced coaching staff, they didn't turn into idiots overnight. Give the piggy coaches credit. I called this game a loss back in the season prediction thread and still thought the season would be a success. This is not a Big 12 loss and it will (I think) be a wakeup call for the players and coaching staff. Rice and Tech should be victories. Then the revenge tour starts at TCU.

I also think Casey should be QB1. I had hoped Card was the guy but he is just too inexperienced at this point.

That game announcer was so full of shit. "The rotation of the ball makes it tail to the right". As if Card hasn't thrown thousands and thousand of those passes in practice, games and with his personal coach.

He may have missed, but he's the most accurate passer on the team. He may have had the yips after multiple sacks? He also may have had to release the ball before the receiver was on the same page? Card repeatedly had to hold the ball with no open receivers, and was under pressure from all directions on almost every pass play. The D knew exactly what we had to do, the scheme played right into their hands. At half Shark said he needs to do a better job keeping his eyes downfield, that means don't run other than behind the line of scrimmage.

Let's see if the playbook is the same for Casey?

hahaha, that announcer was Greg McElroy, starting qb for Southlake carroll and a national champion qb at Alabama, hes thrown more passes than Card, I'm going to go out on a limb and say there was a little truth to what he was saying. McElroy was a heck of an accurate qb but Saban rarely used his throwing skills and instead relied on the run game back then and his defense to win but McElroy could flat out throw accurately.

I honestly felt CT gave us the best option to win now but long term the answer was probably Card, he just needed reps. its a conundrum but we cant give away losses to bring Card along, hes just going to have to get mop up duty and learn in that role. Hopefully CT doesnt throw INT's in the tight games thereby losing the same game Card would too just in a different way, pretty much what we've heard from the coaching staff all year about each qb's weaknesses.

The next time Bijan picks up a block might be his 1st? If we continue to pound the run on downs 1&2, then pass on 3, Bijan needs to come out unless he learns to block.

The Jailbreaks have got to be controlled, or we will need to game plan against no blocking with quick plays. Maybe quick snaps will help?

If you are Rice, you see what Arky did and copy it. They are going to shut down the run and force the QB to beat them with his arm.
