Nothing more than lip serivce from both blowu and Texas. Nothing more and nothing less.

Tortious interference. That's why we're getting the responses we are.

IMO, the Big 12 will make the first move in this. And make no mistake, they will make the first move. We're in the way.

I read where someone postulated that when BYU et al enter in 2024 it changes the terms of the GOR contract and that is the loop hole.

Not necessarily true. The conference always has the right to expand. UT and OU are just two votes.

What it does is wreck scheduling a bit, since we'd have to accommodate whatever the Big 12 decides to do for 2023 and 2024. Are we going to divisions? Are we going to play everyone once?

The way I understood it, it had to do with contract value and disbursement.

I believe this is correct.  As teams move in or out the GOR that the conference has then can be redone by ESPN and/or Fox depending upon who comes in and who leaves. Due to the value of the team being a bigtime tv viewing team, i.e. Texas, USC, blow u, or Clemson. As compared to a Cal, Kansas, and/or Wake Forrest. Yes, I do know that they have had some good teams, but they aren't like the others.

Now, I did find where ND is looking to get a new deal with NBC for $75M per year. But NBC wants more college football to go with ND. Rumor is with Big 12 needing a new deal maybe a partial deal with NBC to go with ESPN and Fox?

Yeah, the rumor is NBC will contract with the Big 12 for either T1 or T2 media rights. These games will be featured when ND is on the road and as lead-ins for ND home games.

I think UT & OU will be in the SEC by 2024. Yormark will settle because he'll want to start building the Big 12's new, "young, hip, & cool" brand. Any time spent featuring or talking about UT/OU detracts from the Big 12, especially if they add 4-6 PAC teams as speculated.

Texas should just win the conference this year to piss them off. lol

Chip Brown discussed some of this on the Flagship podcast this week.

Essentially saying that if the Big12 alters it's current teams enough (ie by adding Pac12 teams), that could cause an alteration of the Grant of Rights contracts and that may be an opportunity for Texas and OU to depart.

With the new Big 12 president saying he is looking for a win-win with the Big 12 and Texas/OU, it seems possible that the Big12 makes a positive move for themselves and lets OU/Texas off the hook early.

That very well may be true.

But the Pac12-Big12 thing was pronounced dead yesterday after the meeting of the higher ups of both conferences.

Texas and OU need to just stay in everyone's big fat way and soon enough they'll ask us if we'd like to leave early. And win the conference. In everything. lol

Yes, no merger. Now the thought is the Big 12 could try to poach 4-6 Pac12 schools. If that happens, could void the current GOR which right now comes with a 120 million dollar price tag for Texas to leave.

And the Pac12 has visions of poaching a couple of Big12 schools. Should be interesting. Neither conference really has any leverage here. If you honestly asked BYU if they'd rather travel the west coast instead of Florida, West Virginia, Iowa, etc., I bet they'd take the west coast.

Seems like for the PAC12 and Big12 to have the most successful merger, they both need to give up their less attractive members to forge an overall stronger conference. Neither seems to be willing to do that at this time.

Pac-10 has less leverage than the Big 12, though.

Only way they stay together is if they appease UO and UW with a larger piece of their smaller pie. From what I've read, their media rights with USC & UCLA were worth $500 MM ($42.6 per team). Without them, it's assumed to only be worth $300 MM, if not less.

Funniest part of this speculation is CA has banned paid travel to Texas and other red states for public employees. I doubt Berkeley wants to be associated with TX and OK. Just saying.

Forgive my ignorance on the legalities of this, but how does poaching the pac12 void the GOR, but bringing in 4 new schools next year doesn't do the same?

TIA

UCLA may not be going to the Big 10. See Gov. Gavin Newsome who is all kinds of butt hurt over this.

Equally ignorant here, it may be that those 4 schools can get added without a major upheaval regarding Gor, but say the total number of new schools is 8, that may warrant a new agreement.

You may be right and makes sense.  Either way, I hope the big 12 does get those 4 teams and we can move on to the sec asap.
