Following Ty Madden's Round One selection at #32 in the MLB Draft, the Texas Longhorns saw two more players drafted on Day Two.  Versatile outfielder Mike Antico was selected with the 241st overall pick (8th Round) by the St. Louis Cardinals.  Hard-throwing right-handed pitcher Cole Quintanilla was picked up in the next round, with the 263rd pick by the Washington Nationals.

Antico played only one season with the Longhorns, as a graduate transfer, after playing for three years at St. John's University.  In his lone season at Texas he held a .273 batting average and stole 41 bases (team high).  He also finished the season with the most walks in the NCAA (63).  His 41 stolen bases were good enough to rank him second nationally.

Cole Quintanilla pitched three years for the Longhorns and was a key piece of the Texas bullpen.  He finished the season with a 1.35 ERA and went 5-1 in 40 innings pitched.  In his career with the Longhorns he tallied a 3.18 ERA and a 7-2 record with 5 saves.

Any probably more important, none of our signees were drafted meaning all are likely to make it to campus. The only one I think they were a little worried about was Josh Stewart but he is still on the board.

Ivan Melendez goes in the 16th round to the Marlins.

Kolby Kubicheck goes in the 18th round to the Mets.

Cam Williams goes in the 19th round to the Royals.

I thought Melendez could benefit from coming back a year and proving he can play defense but that bat was too good to not get drafted. Also thought Kubicheck could really help himself if he won a rotation spot next year. Now it is hard to see any of the 3 come back in my opinion.
