Big 12 Championship: #13 Texas Longhorns vs. #12 Oklahoma State Cowboys

The Texas Longhorns will play in their 7th Big 12 Championship game on Saturday evening.  Texas advanced to the championship round without playing in the semifinals, thanks to individual(s) in the Kansas program testing positive for COVID.

The Longhorns and Oklahoma State Cowboys will meet for the third time this season in the title game, with each holding a regular season win over the other.  Texas won at home in the first matchup between the two and Oklahoma State won a 2OT thriller in Stillwater in early February.

Both programs are playing high-level basketball.  Oklahoma State is riding a three game winning streak and is 8-2 in their last 10 games with losses to Kansas and Baylor.  The Pokes are playing in their 4th Big 12 Championship game and won back-to-back conference titles in 2004 & 2005.

The Longhorns last played in the championship game in 2011 and lost to Kansas 85-73.  A win for Texas would be the first in the Big 12 Championship for the Longhorns and would set the stage nicely for the team's momentum headed into the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

I gotta say, Shaka's players love him.

Great game by the Horns. Kept a cushion lead most of the way and closed it out. First time in Iong time Texas has won its conference tournament.

Sims looked great. Others play their roles very well. Great team effort.

They hit free throws tonight, rebounded well, and shot smart most of the night.  Great win for the Longhorns as they head into the NCAA Tournament as a likely 3 seed.

OSU made a strong run towards the end of the game and the Horns matched them shot for shot.  Matt Coleman played to his potential, like an All American point guard.  Jericho Sims and Brock Cunningham played great, as well.  It feels good to finally win the Big12 Tourney.  Congratulations Horns.  Congratulations Coach Smart.

Your welcome everyone. I forced myself to not watch the game and of course we had to win. 

I will be recording and watching future games delayed by at least one hour. Let’s hope and pray this curse of mine lasts.

I had Covid last year and it took me four days of being miserable and then it took a month to get my energy back.

 

I put the season this way.

 

Pre Covid- 11-2

 

Covid and the month after- 3-5

 

After Covid and the after effect- 5-0 Big 12 Title.

I like him more than I did. I like how his players seem to feel dedicated to him. 

Now, if he loses in the first or second round again. I may not like him much again. lol

Great win for the guys and happy for Shaka. Jericho's defense has become ridiculous. Someone that big should not be able to defend against guards that well. Some NBA team better give that young man a chance.
