Devon Messinger
Today, big school football is back in the state of Texas. As a result, many Longhorns commits and targets will be starting their seasons with the hope of winning a state title. For many schools, this weekend will be used for scrimmages. However, one of this weekend’s most hyped games features three 2021 Longhorns commits. Premier Game of the Week: #1 Denton Ryan vs #11 Arlington Martin (AT&T Stadium): Denton Ryan is the state title favorite in the 5A Division I classification. Last season, the Raiders were just a play away from coming back to beat Shadow Creek in the championship game. However, this season, Ja’Tavion Sanders and Billy Bowman Jr. will try to win Ryan its first title since 2002. Sanders and Bowman both headline Texas’s 2021 recruiting class and will provide the Longhorns with some versatility. Both players are featured on offense and defense and will be playing against stout competition, as Martin is in the 6A classification. On the other hand, Arlington Martin also comes into Friday’s game with something to prove. This season, they enter play as Texas’s 11th ranked team in 6A. However, last season, Martin was bounced from the playoffs thanks to, now Longhorn, Ja’Quinden Jackson’s play from under center for Duncanville. Martin’s defense is led by 2021 Longhorns commit, Morice Blackwell, who is a stat-sheet stuffer for the Warriors. Blackwell will try to silence the Raiders attack from the linebacker position. Last week, Brooks rushed for 256 yards on just 12 carries, and punched the ball into the end zone four times. Jaylon is currently teammates with 2021 Longhorns commit, Jordon Thomas, at Memorial High School in Port Arthur, TX.
