Administrators HornSports Staff Posted September 22, 2020 Administrators Report Share Posted September 22, 2020 After a month of silence following the commitment of top 2022 prospect Quinn Ewers, the Texas Longhorns have landed another piece of the puzzle in Port Arthur Memorial four-star cornerback, Jaylon Guilbeau. Guilbeau becomes the first member of the 2022 class on the defensive side of the ball, joining the aforementioned Ewers, along with four-star wide receiver Phaizon Wilson. Guilbeau tweeted out a video of his top-five a few weeks ago on the 5th of September. That list included Alabama, LSU, Oregon, Penn State, and Texas A&M. However, Texas and cornerbacks coach, Jay Valai, made a strong push at Guilbeau and it paid off. Last year Guilbeau earned first-team All-District honors as a sophomore for Memorial. He also runs Track and Field and specializes in middle-distance events such as the 400 and 800-meters. The class of 2022 is currently the fourth-ranked in the nation via 247Sports. The Longhorns’ three commits hold an average 247SportsComposite score of .9548. Guilbeau sits at a .9430 as he currently is ranked as the 15th best cornerback in the nation and overall the 21st ranked player in Texas for the class. Guilbeau becomes the eighth four-star commit in the secondary since the class of 2020. Player Information: Name: Jaylon Guilbeau Position: Cornerback High School: Memorial City, State: Port Arthur, TX Measurables Height: 5’11.5 Weight: 175 Forty Time: 4.82 Wing Span: 74 inches Broad Jump: 9’9 Shuttle Time: 4.3 seconds Film Three Best Strengths: Speed and Endurance – Guilbeau also specializes in the 400 and 800-meters at Track and Field. He has enough speed to keep up with receivers at any level and don’t worry about him getting tired out. The 400 and 800 are two of the most difficult races to run as they require a lot of stamina. Guilbeau has mastered it. Length – Guilbeau is not quite six feet tall, but his wingspan is 6’2. That’s not quite basketball level height to wingspan ratio but it’s great for a cornerback in high school. What he may lack in size he more than makes up for with his freakish length. He can get his arms anywhere to break up the pass. Instincts – Watching his film, the Memorial cornerback shows to have elite instincts at the position. No matter the coverage or play-call, if the ball is thrown his way he’s there in a heartbeat. He has a great backpedal and shows a great ability to locate the ball at it’s highest point. It’s clear to see how he was first-team All-District as just a sophomore with his tremendous ability. Areas for Improvement: Bulk – Guilbeau has a lot of room to put on some extra weight before he arrives at Austin in 2022. He stands at 5’11.5 and 175 pounds which is a great size for optimum speed, but to perform this well at the next level he needs to add a bit more muscle to his frame. Something he can easily accomplish in a few years. Tackling – To go along with the extra bulk, Guilbeau needs to improve in open-field tackling to really make the most of his ability. Another thing that two years of football at the high school level will be able to help him with. Both of these areas are things he will be able to clean up. Summary Guilbeau is a promising defensive back that Texas can add to its secondary repertoire. A cornerback with good size, great length, and exceptional speed. He has two more years at the high school level before joining Tom Herman, Jay Valai, and company in Austin. Texas has been recruiting playmakers in the secondary to match up with the incredible quickness and big-play ability of the receivers in the Big 12. Guilbeau, once it’s his time to shine, should prove to be more than up to the task of playing his role. Final Verdict Guilbeau is the first defensive commit for the class of 2022. It’s a great start not only for the defensive side of the ball but for the class of 2022 as a whole. Along with Ewers and Wilson, the 2022 class looks as stacked as it could possibly be at this moment. Guilbeau joins fellow four-star defensive backs JD Coffey, Ishamel Ibraheem, and Jamier Johnson who all were a part of the 2021 class. Texas’s secondary appears to be loaded for years to come. J.B. TexasEx
That 4.82 forty has gotta be a typo. Right? I mean, that's TE speed - not CB.

Everyone tested very poorly that day. Very wet field I have read.
