2020 Football Signee Hudson Card Highlights

Recommended Posts

Over the course of the 2020 recruiting cycle, the depth of the quarterback position has seen growth for the Longhorns with the additions of Hudson Card and Ja’Quinden Jackson.

Card, an Austin native and early enrollee, was the first athlete to join the 2020 Longhorns recruiting class when he announced his commitment in May of 2018. He is a four-star prospect who is the 4th ranked quarterback and 57th ranked player nationally for the entire 2020 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.

Career Statistics (Via MaxPreps):

Passing:  6,428 passing yards, 80 passing touchdowns and a quarterback rating of a 130.

Rushing: 1,391 rushing yards and 20 rushing touchdowns.

Card has an electric arm and is able to fit his passes into tight windows and find receivers downfield.

Card’s athleticism stands out and allows him to get outside of the pocket with ease. He runs with fluidity and has broken a fair share of his defenders’ ankles with well-timed jukes. In addition, he spent his sophomore season at the wide receiver position while being the backup to (now TCU Horned Frog) quarterback Matthew Baldwin at perennial powerhouse Lake Travis High School.

Needs Improvement:

Card is decently sized, listed at 6’2″, however he needs to add weight in order to protect himself from the rigors of college football. I believe that this won’t be a problem as Card spends more time at the University of Texas with the Longhorns coaching staff.

What I See:

Quite frankly, I see a quarterback with NFL Draft potential. Card has the intangibles needed at the quarterback position, however it will be up to him to solidify his name among the Longhorn legends. He must do everything that he can to soak up knowledge from Sam Ehlinger, someone who knows what it’s like to be an Austin kid playing quarterback for the Longhorns, and then must prepare himself for the test of a quarterback competition.

Lastly, what I learned from my two years of covering Hudson is that he is a class act. Every coach wants their best players to be their best leaders and Card was just that at Lake Travis.
